Time will tell how much use they get.....but just knowing WTF is going on here with the pH of the native soil should pay for the acquisition in full in additional crops/etc. It's kinda like everything else we own. You use it when ya need it and it's nice to have. Hitting the point....especially with this virus..where the realization of "I can't take it with me"...so hey...whatever. My wife is onboard in the veggie garden but has no clue about weed...even after 30 years of it bein grown in house. She smokes her share though...LOL. Any purchase surrounding food production/weed rarely raises an eyebrow here. She's cool cus after almost 40 years dealing with me....she always says "cheaper than you being in the bar"...or "yer not one of those clowns who goes to the boat show and buys a boat on his own...so don't feel guilty spending the $$"...LOL. So...I get a pass....always. Heehee. No boozing, boats, planes, stupid boy toys and keep my dick where it should be = "Golden".

In that light on the solar front....I'm looking at some decent size deep cycle batteries. Not cheap, for sure...LOL. My knowledge is minimal..so I'm trying to decide what to buy/etc... and how much power I need. My goal is to be able to run what I want during the day and have enough power to run a few things overnight as well off the battery back up. Pumps draw just over 5 amps.

This is what I put together so far

Like i say...I'm hopin to cut electricity costs. I run 2 pumps.....both suck 9 amps.......so it's like running grow lights all day and often///all night as well.

and it's an "Old Dog, new tricks" thing as well.... like the soil testing and the rest of the shit I end up tackling with little to no knowledge. Live and learn (what not to do again...LOL)

I am a little confused on your solar setup. Are you going to power the pumps separately? that was my original impression thinking they might be a long ways apart. If you are talking about a more central solar system & only one battery bank I would seriously question the 12v idea. 12 v is for small short runs. My system is 24v but things have improved in all these years, I would go 48v if I was to do it now. My panels are 24v tho so I am committed. Make sure before you commit.

No matter your goal, pretty easy to fuck up the batteries at first. I would sure be thinking golf cart batteries or the first round until you have experience.

Feel free to hit me up with your setup.

The links above are the stuff I'm putting together...minus the batteries. I'll likely go with the original plan and keep them separate to cover more ground. I could just run direct w/o batteries as well until I figure things out. I'm doing that for a crude drip for my fruit trees with a panel I already had and a 12v Sureflo RV water pump I found in my dad's shit when I cleaned out his garage after he passed. Not perfect but I haven't had to stand there w/the hose so....um...mission accomplished. I'm sure not going out looking for batteries now....so will likely just try to find something on the Net. Hopin the controller keeps the batteries from frying and balances things out. That's what it's supposed to do anyway.

I'll take a look at the cart batteries..... thanks

If I search for "golf cart batteries" I get basically the same hits as a search for "Deep cycle batteries" or "Solar batteries". Same products for the most part.

Panels/controller should show today. Pumps Tomorrow. Wires/connectors and shit on Monday.
Sorry If I missed it, are you off-grid or just looking at alternatives? Im interested in solar, I have a 40 foot fifth wheel trailer with solar panels that I am planning on turning into a little growroom / workshop..

Sometimes you can find good deals on used 12v deep cycle UPS batteries. When a single battery goes out in the big systems (cell towers, data centers ECT), they usually replace all of them and sell off the old ones pretty cheap.

Back in my dbdrag and bassrace days, I had gotten a few of those and they worked great, and we're about 1/3 the price of getting brand new ones.

If it were me I would not go Amazon. Nice to have the support that you get from a real site. I like these guys, have used them a lot & they will take the time to discuss things too: Northern Arizona Wind & Sun | Off Grid & Grid-Tied Solar Power Systems

While it may work for awhile straight off the panel the battery & charge controller are a big part of regulating the voltage to the pump.

Batteries…these were the ones I used for 9 years, at the time I joined Sam’s Club just to buy a bunch of these batteries: Duracell Golf Car Battery - Group Size GC2 - Sam's Club

Costco sometimes has good ones too.

I have been playing with the idea of a dedicated 12v tent for Baja. Using 12v 3000k LED bulbs & 12v fans I think a simple system would be quite doable, at least in summer when the days are long. Wouldn’t need an inverter….it should be super efficient.

I probably will never do it, I don’t need it but it is fun to figure stuff out. An off-grid LED tent would be fun.

You could always go grid tied too, federal tax rebates available there. It has gotten a lot cheaper in the last few years.

We're 50% treed here....at least. I have 3 big cottonwoods looming next to/over the house so the roof is a no go for panels/tying to the grid/etc.. We're also in a small valley so we wait for the sun to crest the ridge in the AM and watch it drop behind the ridge to the West in the afternoon. Kinda why I want the battery set up. Between the valley...the trees and the clouds we get in the afternoons at times....direct drive pumps/etc are often just pissing water or running half speed. Hoping a battery will span those gaps and on sunny days...store enough for a nighttime set as well....not to mention wear and tear on pumps. We will see.

Too late on the Amazon gig. I hear ya about support...but i think I can figure this out.....and for $75 for a 100 watt mono panel....it was a no brainer here. The AZ company wants a bit more for their units... and with buying 3 set ups...I focused on the cheap. Bought the panels direct from Newpowa.

I'm about $350 a month ON grid. LOL. Just trying to thwart some costs over time by using solar vs. paying the Co-op.

I'd cut the roof off that RV and put in clear plexi panels....or do some major skylights at the very least. Mobile growroom!! Heehee....

Thats an interesting thought... I should be a little more clear Its a 2019 so it just came stock with one panel to operate the lift system and lights and w.e... but its what got my wheels turning. If I can do it clean, I would consider that... I have come up with some grandiose shit before, but the idea was to go totally off grid somewhere as far away from people as possible then just figure out a mobile internet solution.... It may not make sense to anyone else, but it sounds really cool to me.. A guy can dream right... Im halfway there...made the last payment this month...I figure at 40x8x8.5 I have enough room to do a couple fun things in here and still cut it off at the side door, turn the attic into a bedroom... hey mannnnn... leave the duramax out of this... shes a keeper shes pulled some pretty questionable loads... she wasnt happy about it, but she pulled them all the same.

ps: I wonder what the spectrum is in the LED bar in my grille... only a question a stoner would ask

Heehee...nobody around my 'hood has a rig like that. I was picturing a more local fare...maybe an old Coachman or a 70's Winnebongo with the bumper wired on and a couple of old bikes barely hangin onto the back.....

So scratch my suggestion of "tear the roof off the sucker...tear the roof off the sucker" nyuk. Too nice for that stuff.

The funny part is, if you would of came back with a halfway sane idea, I would of considered it.. Nothing is off the table at this point if its effective.

a couple of my guys were mounting something inside, and they put 2 inch screws right out the side of the fucking trailer already... so its already christened LOL think it was maybe a week old at that point..

A triple axle Toy Hauler? Nice! Not a furnished travel trailer like expected.

Mostly wide open inside then? No windows, ramp in the rear?

That could be fun.

Totally empty..bare wood walls. side door, two vents up top but no windows. Its got a fold out door on the back like a landscape trailer... there will be a build out thead... eventually.

How high is the ceiling? Wired?

A shame to lose it as a toy hauler but we aren't doing a lot of traveling lately.

8 foot ceiling. and no toys anymore... Im in the transport business... it was going to go into the fleet, but the guys that work for me refused to take care of it... I pimped out the denali, put tvs in the console and in the back for the guys to be comfortable... turned into a fucking pig pen... fuck em... its ALL MINE :)

That is a seriously nice 3 axle Toy Hauler. Could not have been cheap.…nice wheels too. A shame to make it immobile.

With an 8 ft ceiling you could set up a few tents in there if you decided to go that route.

LOL....I see that yer definitely not in Colorado/must be someplace where weed has value to the common (non-licensed/in bed with the State) man if yer lookin to make it into an active grow. I have a 900 sq ft garage...bigger than my house (we're rural..that is a requirement) that I'd love to fill but for why? Lotsa ground around here as well. I make a dent in it but there's so much more room to play...it's maddening. Have the set up I wanted for years and could do serious damage....but the laws changed and the game is done here. Not much point in playing past the general addiction I gotta quell.

You could definitely frame out rooms inside and rock the rock in that thing. I'm a noob on the solar shit though....as you can see from my haphazard approach....LOL. I'm that way with most stuff these days. The wife gets pissed at me cus my standard answer is "whatever".

Day 61 here on the last Mai Tai crosses. Thought I had 2 GMO/MT but there's only one in there...LOL. Yup...haphazard. The "Original diesel" (whatever that is..LOL) x MT are frosting and purp'ing....so these are nice plants/in the zone with the rest of these crosses. Color me impressed. Every one of these has that frosty bag appeal some folks is lookin for. Gonna be some dank shit. We'll see if it's really SD when we trim. If it is the wife will last..maybe 3 minutes...then she'll drop the scissors and say "I can't take it"....eyes watering...etc.... I'll try to get some pics before I do the deed.

Got about 25 bags all packed and ready to squish to see what this stuff is like. Kept just enough bud to roll lathered up joints but the rest will get the squish treatment. Still laugh when I trim these tent plants. Paltry yields compared to outside...just laughable. I remember now why I ran 100 plants a cycle... heehee.
