It's weird they called it a record though; those fish routinely get over 300 pounds in terms of record class.

I think anyone can catch big fish... Catching little dinks like I do is the really tough stuff.
I mean, the hooks barely fit in their little mouths....

I do OK with small fish; I have tiny Octopus Hooks I use for bait. Though you could use those oldschool things that aren't actually hooks; It's the small piece of wood and you put bait directly on it, but you cant really release fish hooked with one of those as they lodge in the throat instead of hooking them.

That Gator Gar was likely hard to bring it given the solid bone mouth they have though.

Managed to get my first fish of the open water season today. I had something good sized hit and miss a 5 inch crankbait, but only landed a couple small pike on the slip-bobber rig.
Saw quite a few rises as well, things are picking up.

The water rose a few inches while I was there. Might be local runoff or might be the mountain snowpack melting. I can't wait until the big runoff starts, the water comes up 6 or 8 feet, and the sturgeon get active.

Had a few hits this morning but nothing landed.

Runoff is starting, river is dirty and rising with lots of floating debris.

Saw this really cool wild rose(Alberta's official flower) with both white and pink blooms on the way back to the car.

Sigh....tried to take buddy fishing yesterday... turns out you can't leave boat batteries sitting unplugged for months on end

. Hoping they fire up today after sitting on charge again overnight, at least one of the banks lit up green.

I'm not a great fisherman, I can cast and follow instructions though and have an aluminum boat that goes places. My favorite part is just driving in circles and smoking a jay on the lake.

See this is why I ultimately get frustrated with the internet as a communication medium. If you and I were sitting around shooting the shit this would set off a super-fun mutual roast session.

Here though, it's just too easy to be misinterpreted, or to offend some 3rd party who doesn't get the joke.
