I had an overflowing kiddie pool of recycled soil and a bunch of filled/harvested pots laying around along with a bunch of stems/branches/leaves from previous grows. So, I finally went into action so I can start improving some things around here...
First up, the scraps and soil...trying to get the plant scraps composted and the soil revamped. So, I layed down some used soil. Hit it with some Bokashi em1 compost starter, Neem Seed Meal, and Sea90. Tossed in a bunch of plant and kitchen scraps. Covered with a mix of more soil and scraps. Then topped off with Grokashi, Neam Seed Meal, and insect frass...
And, here we are a couple days later...
Getting a nice solid layer of mycelium up top!
Speaking of mycelium, I'm getting some really impressive growth on the practice mushie run! 4 days ago, I thought I f'd up cause I forgot to spritz it the day before (approx 3 days after initial dunk/soak) and it says to spray with water everyday for the first 7-14 days.
2 days ago it essentially just looked like this tub here above... Just some moldy-fungusy lumps on the surface. Then yesterday morning before work, we had this...
And, then this morning before work, we had this...
Crazy growth in a very short period of time!
For the magic mushies...I know I won't have nearly this much success, especially on my first go around. But, it does give me a slight boost in confidence that I can grow them successfully as long as I can get through that sterile inoculation stage (which was obviously taken care of for me with these, as they were previously inoculated and I simply had to dunk and water).
These had no environment (temp/humidity) controls whatsoever. It's just sitting on my dining table with a single household led 6+ feet away...and thriving!
Im thinking I'll do pretty ok in this department ?
Just gotta take care of a few more things here n there. Then I'll start gathering the supplies/making the space for the real deal run here shortly?
