I can't find any black 3.5 gallons instock locally.
If I order they should arrive by Oct 1 at latest.(now they will be later)
Is the black bucket better for any reason or am I just paranoid about the light penetration?
There is a 4 inch difference in height between the two also

I typically like black and taller if possible but that’s just personal preference. I like black because u can see anything that may be on it . And I like taller and skinny I feel like the roots have more room . Jmo

Black 3.5g and black 5g are same price. Might aswell go with the 5g black then(made it a choice)

I like bigger pots, I only have to water my 7 gallon shorts once a week using sunshine 4 as my medium. It drives me crazy when I'm in 1 gallons & I have to water every other day or forget & get all stressed on my drive home about how dry they could potentially be before I get home.

Randomly you'll come across threads here where people use all kinds of different buckets(ice cream, Halloween candy, random cheap-os at the dollar store) & they do great, slips my mind exactly who, but I wanna say @Jewels is one of em.

I used to use tall n skinny but think you get more root spread on short n wide...so I compromised and went with 7 gallon pots as they are tall and wide...best of both worlds!

ChocChips, Epsom salts, Coffee, its all good.

Burlap liner will keep the dirt in a milk crate.


Specifically, I dont think colour is an issue. I have done hydro in white buckets.

Personally, I like/ prefer 5 gallon nursery buckets, recycled. Black. 10 gallon for photoperiods, and CBD hemp strains.... 3.5 and mostly 5 gallon with ample drainage(we drill extra holes) for autos.

For hydro DWC, I used to use Lowe's blue 5 gal buckets and lids exclusively, and they work just fine. Then I switched to 2 and 3 gal black buckets and lids so I can fit more buckets in the tents - very helpful if you're putting reg seeds in a blooming tent.
