Chemistry of the skunk smell found?

I read the article and while I feel like knowing this could tell us why more strains now days have a funkier kick to em than the old stuff. With all the sources for available sulfur in modern soil mixes and in most nutrients in the form of sulfates I dont think most will see a lack in sulfur

urea /PISS only works if you have the beneficial bacteria and organic buffers to make it work, otherwise your asking for toxicity and also instability in urea . Otherwise if using such living soil/organics, great method! 1 part piss , 9 parts water

people act like urine is bad but look how many people are paying for watered down lab piss and acting like that’s okay LOL

for sulphur, key is to not add to much of one sulphur at once but know ur demands and what’s In your medium.meaning I add Epsom salt aka mag sulphate also iron sulphate and many of my other organic minerals have some sulphur as well. Key is to not focus on one or it’s overboard. like everything ( it’s better to have diff calcium sources than only one)

dosage of Epsom is based on demand in its cycle, I have cemented a base for majority and if they need more I can def make custom batches and foliar spray more. My measurement for Epsom is every other rez or once a week 1/4 cup of Epsom per 50 gal in veg-start of bloom, 1st week of bloom-3/4th week of bloom do 1/2 cup per 50 gal, 3/4th week of bloom-last weeks of bloom 3/4-1cup

when I followed the lower dosage even under lower ppfd, I had demand needs and people also don’t realize when u see a lot of demands or deficiencies it’s been demanded for over 1-2 weeks. So key is to prevent and know those demands before seeing any issues

biggest mistake with for example calcium and mag is yes cannabis is a whore like many things, but issue like many people when they use their formula for feed they will rely on cal/mag nitrate and yes it’s a good non organic and veg stage version. The issue is using it beyond 3/4th week and wondering why ur plants are taking too much Nitrogen but demanding if not more cal/mag and misc but you can’t keep up.

this is why you need to know u can’t rely on so many products as the whole base of ur formula cause it may be ph up/down or has too much of something that u don’t need.

for non nitrogen based calcium/mag I suggest elemental or grow more flower cal/mag . Both very little N and are cost effective but also have great % for cannabis . used both many seasons and would def suggest that over trying cal/mag past 3/4th week of flower or never if u don’t need extra N ( I don’t plus don’t want salt)

gm flower cal/mag I use 2-5ml

elemenatal I apply 1/2-1teaspoon on medium every 1-2 weeks and in compost tea

Ok! Finally read this article! Hasn't Skunk #1 been around since the 70s though? That skunky smell I used to attribute purely to the Terpenes of a given strain and not Sulfur in the soil.... does that mean the Terpene Profile of a stain can change purely because of what is in the soil???

After reading up on this a little more. The hops in green bottled beer that is skunky is the culprit By releasing this same compound. Maybe a compost tea of hops is in order?
Hops are related to Cannabis and are the reason for the name of the Terpene Humulene; also this thread is making my head spin in terms of possibilities; I thought Terpenes in different strains were "generalized" and that they had the same basic Terpenes when grown.... is this wrong?

I follow my nose a lot when it comes to weed I want, and then add Phenotypes to this and it's a head scratcher on what makes a stain have it's scent.

It took me sometime to find where it was myself. I would sit for hours scrolling through pages trying to find what I was previously reading. If you are constantly looking at one thread of a grower or breeder you can also follow them and it will notify you when they post. Screenshot_20220104-214105_Samsung Internet.jpg
