Feed ourselves

It's the beginning of Raspberry week.....bumper crop out there. I've never eaten a better red raspberry. And this week the birds get triple seeds.............by the time they figure it out the berries will be in. :) There is a hitch hiker in that bowl

I grew some everbearing strawberries in a 5 gallon planter. They are not big strawberries but wow some pile of berries come off of the 2 plants.

My youngest grandson, the one who loves to eat EVERYTHING, saw them on the way in the door.

He sat down and said grandpa i would like those strawberries and tomatos...and he ate the strawberries and then ate the cherry tomatoes and loved every minute of it.

:)

I am going to do a bigger planter...or more of them next year and i might try some indoors... ba ha ha..a tent is for ganja man...

Getting a few berries a day now. Ate quite a few under ripe white and yellow ones, the key apparently is to wait until the next berry in line is looking ready.

I have one plant that is not flowering at all, note it is the darker green one in this pic

Emailed baker creek and they were somewhat curious, noting that the seedlings may flower at different times and N-P ratio can impact flowering but couldn't offer a confirmed diagnosis and asked to be kept in the loop. Maybe it hit a hot pocket of N?

Too much N somewhere or it's just sensitive.

I was a little lazy in building/ammending that bed and may not have mixed thoroughly. It could be sterile?
Strawberries will act like that if there is too much nitrogen, I'd suspect that first. You can try side dressing with some compost. That will give a relatively instant and available P boost. If that works, it was the nitrogen, if not, it may just be the plant. Still I'd wait it out and look at her kids. You can replace her this fall with kids from your other berries if it's really a freak.

The other end of the Garlic plants offer up small bulbils that are exact replicas of the parent. This is a great way to rapidly increase your stock. It typically takes 2 years instead of one..............and those 2 year olds are generally impressive. The bulbils are pathogen free and a good way to regenerate/refresh your line.

I'm putting these in right now. Usually in pots because they are real tiny like a blade of grass and the pot helps me find them.........they can.t compete with weeds at all. Leaving a few scapes on, you can come up with a hundred bulbils pretty quick. They are also wonderful for adding to pickling sports. They look good in the jar as well as adding flavor. German reds had a weak year so I will be planting a bunch of these to freshen up the line.
:)
Berry season is kaput now..................but the getting was good while it lasted. Time to prune the flowering canes and train the canes for next years crop. berrynice!.jpg

First year for growing Beaver Dam peppers......they are doing pretty good. Anybody grow them? Curious when they should get harvested and how hot or mild they might be.View attachment 73059
I have my answer now.......you let them go until red. They are very good......just a little spicy. Definitely will repeat these.....they are thriving too, more inbound

Shoulda spaced them more like 2ft instead of 1 and aslo shoulda trellised them. These would work great in hanging baskets.

A bit of a fine line on how much sun they can take I think. Its really the ones around the perimter that are yielding well, but the ones that get the most direct light seem to be having a rough go.

The interior ones are sending far fewer flowers.
The raised beds are being demolished by the chipmunks.
