Been looking at these drawings and they all have two things in common. They are overly complicated and they have unnecessary Hardware

Just stuff the airline into the tube, doesn't matter top or bottom. No fitting required.

We are only looking for a circulating pump; the output does not necessarily have to be above the water line.

To avoid siphon back, the pump must live above the water line.

Unless you're pushing a horrendous amount of air volume - most of these pumps ( lift tube) look oversized.
We are just looking to avoid stagnation and stratification, we don't need a ton of turnover
Even the dinkiest of air pumps can lift water if the draw tube stays close to double the diameter of the airline

Can confirm. Just a week or so I was using a ~1" tube about 3 or 4 feet long to allow me to set the airline in specific spots to help melt the ice in my pond. If I didn't push the airline all the way through so it stuck out at the bottom, it would start pumping water out the top.

i hv a ghetto hack for checking soil for fungus gnats. i hate them fakas and here in hawaii storage seems to be an issue. most stores have soil all rained on outside.
i use bag soil to start seeds indoor and hv to be picky about where i get it from.
in a pinch i hv bought whatever and this is my way of checking for gnat larvae.

take a cup of soil and soak it in straight isopropyl. if there are fungus gnatswithin in a few minutes u will see tiny yellow maggots crawling to surface and dying. its an awesome feeling to see it happen but still sucks that that bag of soil will just go outside.

dont try it on a living plants though! it will dry out to death in a few days. dont ask me how i know 🤣
