Grow hacks ... Post em if you got em

If you've got spider mites late in flower and don't want to chop, you can buy time by removing the plant from your indoor grow space, then hose it down with a fine mist of water - paying special attention to underside of leaves. Wait for the plant to dry, then return it to the grow space.

Repeat every 2 days for as long as it takes to finish.

Of course I'm assuming that the plants can be moved, and mites are favoring a specific plant (usually the weakest & most vulnerable).

If your entire grow is affected, it's time to chop and cut your losses. 😞

I thought a community thread for grow hacks would be helpful. Especially for newer growers

My first grow back is a splint for broken branches. I like to take a drinking straw cut off a piece couple inches or so, split it long ways and wrap it around the broke branch like a splint. After its in place around the branch just put a piece of tape on it to keep it tight on the branch.
I don't have a pic at the moment. I'll post one next time I use this method

I use tin tape myself, it's quite rigid when folded over the limb and wrapped around.
That straw trick is a good one too. ?
Those are both good battlefield medic techniques. Never thought of tin tape but yeah I can see how that would fly for a lot of injuries. For those times when the damage involves splitting right off the main stalk, I like to use tongue depressors and wire ties twisted down snug with pliers, I also use some generic neosporin on the seam where the two pieces come together. Don't know if it helps but maybe help fight infection in the wound until it can heal.

Don't worry too much brother :) once had a huge branch snap almost off, and fixed that with little wooden skewers and duct tape. Flowered her out without problems lol.

I had a Chem D branch this past season almost snap off, and the plant was too big to get behind up against the fence, so I left it to see what would happen. Almost broken off, less than half the branch making contact, and she was OK. Buds looked weird I admit; they aimed up at the Sun and one weird angle, but they finished.

Concrete Reinforcing Mesh - You can get it by the roll (for allot $$$) or a 42"x7' foot sheet for $10 at lowes/hd by the cement and rebar stuff. Half the time it's rusted/super clean.
I paint them white and use for scrogging, zip tied to the pvc frame for rigidity. and I prefer the 6" inch square sizes now over anything else, it's perfect for how I use scrog.

also this stuff, the fuzzier velcro cable strap ties are better than the thinner kind, so you can use the fuzzy side against the plant, great for anchoring or marking stuff/securing bags over buds, securing around cut tp tube wrapped around bad snaps. It doesn't stretch though so any direct binding with it should be loosened/refastened often or just be very loose to account for future growth.

I used the roll for my cages. They literally last at least ten years.

Stay tuned.
I’m not exactly sure how this is gonna come together. :stoned:

Gonna run 5 plants.
Not sure if I’ll cover the whole thing with plastic like the SIPs, or just use a thick layer of mulch.

I recently had some good luck popping older seeds faster, soaking them in a mix of water and seltzer water, and a spash of peroxide.

It got me interested in the ph on those flavored drinks and some can get pretty low. Some hv the same ph as a coke. Crazy. My bro drink cases on the flavored ones!

Apparently water and carbon dioxide also creates carbonic acid, i guess i missed that chemistry lesson😎

Resetting a CHEPA filter (cheap HEPA).
Got two running 24/7 in the indoor grow space.

Pro tip: there are several small holes in the bottom that are for water drainage. (Think window usage.)
Tape the holes for a good seal.
I like running one of these in the other parts of the house too!! Keep that dust down. Good call on the drainage holes!

This worked great for me the other day, and it even added a splash of color to the decor. 🤣🤣🤣
Have a big filter, with a smaller fan, and no reducer collar?
Filter was for a 12" with no collar, fan is an 8". A new collar + reducer was order only and $ 🤑, so I made this.

Drywall bucket lid with a 8" cutout for an 8" starting collar that I already had.

Siliconed the collar in after bending the locking tabs down, then screwed the lid to the filter top. Saved me $50+, and the waiting for a special order. 🤗🤗🤗

Bro I totally LOVE that! As a not real Engineer, I can still appreciate this, because for the Computer nerd in me, I watched when Alienware Gaming Desktops first came out, and they were easy to get up to 8 grand, because they basically used the very best performance parts, but assembled it for you. Best and fastest Motherboard, RAM, Drives, Video Card, everything, but if you ordered those yourself, and put it together, it was about 1500 dollars at the time. And if you had a case and plexiglass cutter, you could even design the cut out yourself to add the LED lights in the case and make it pop lol.

Probably rambling a bit here and I'm sorry. It's cool and raining, and I was helping my mom and uncle earlier, and I've smoked nothing but Dead Whabbits today, and whew! She potent lol.

Those lids also make good drip/runoff catchers for smaller pots. Lol
Oh trust me…….I know. I’ve used plenty! 🤣
I don’t have a picture on hand, but I have a few lids that I drilled twenty or so holes in one side and cut a square in the other side. Fill up a bucket with water and put this lid on it and BOOM! a five gallon watering can for the garden…..or your outdoor grows! In the summer, I’ve a dozen or so buckets under my eaves collecting water. I’ve been too cheap to have gutters installed…..

My simple plant tag hack here! Every 6 months to a year, one or more of our mini blinds crap out on us, so I break them down and cut the strips into 8 inch lengths.
I'm just too cheap to buy plastic marker tags, and my sharpie markings last, even on long term grows! When the grow is done, I cut off the top of the tag with the details on it, and leave it in the pre burp bins for the initial 7 day dry. Next I tape the details to my burping jar, and I'll not forget who is who!
