I just pictured it again, but this time my mind added the flapping sound effect of the thong-flops against his feet as he bounds through the moonlit forest.

I gotta admit though with much appreciation . It’s nearly 0200am and I’m feeling just a little fried .
This place and this twisted bunch of comedians I’m grateful for in a messed up way .
The crew get a bit stale after midnight and wonder off to wherever to find a quiet moment but not me . I’m stuck in this little metal tower sniffing diesel fumes which is not bad . Get a bit of vertigo but the terp profile is semi ok while gaining a cultural experience from across the big pond .
Life’s ok . In fact , it’s pretty fucking good .

Have you tried leopard skin Flip flops to match the thong ?
Nobody could get away with it but you mate .
Running through the woods , howling at the moon until the neighbour takes you out with a crossbow bolt . To be fair it would probably take several bolts

Honestly? I run around out there barefoot some nights. Probably scared the shit out of some hikers.

You fucker!
If I had close neighbors they'd be calling the loony wagon for me for how hard picturing that made me laugh.

Well... you just planted the seed.
You did, actually. I recall you saying something like(very roughly paraphrased) "I had no idea it got so hot up here in the summer. Now I'm thinking your winter is just a hoax. I'm going to have to come back and check."

(if you bring skis to switch out with the wheels when needed, this is the ultimate Canadian transportation

Drop the "g"s off yer contractions, but yeah, I recall sayin' sonthin' like that.

What would be the highlights to the timing fall - spring? Fish species, daylight hours, ice condition??

Perch, Pike, Burbot, Walleye, Sturgeon. All those don't mind it being cold. Trout and Salmon too, if you're into that.

Basically the exact same fish you could catch here.... *sigh*

If you want to experience a Canuck winter and try ice fishing, it's just a matter of picking a time and crossing your fingers.

December, early ice, is a lot of fun, but might be a little nerve-wracking for a noob.
January is probably the slowest time, but even then I rarely get skunked. March has the most opportunity for great fishing, but is also one of the most volatile times weather wise. March can be -30 or +15, often with lots of wind and snow. Blizzard one day and then the next you fish in a t-shirt. March is when the burbot spawn and when the big pike are in pre-spawn.

If the wind isn't howling, as long as it is above -30, fishing is doable(I've fished in -40, but it isn't fun. stuff freezes up or breaks). It's even warm and comfy once you get set up and the heater running.

I mainly target pike, walleye, burbot and sometimes perch. There are trout lakes around, but they have very little appeal to me.
I have a list of over 60 fishable water-bodies within 150 km of my home.

--------------------------

As for gear, quality footwear would be the only item that you would need. I have all the fishing gear. As for clothes, you are probably well versed in layering and know not to wear cotton against your skin. If you want, you could hit a thrift store or two in YEG and grab a warm coat and a sweater or two.

I've got a pretty decent winter kit, I want some down pants but have never pulled the trigger on a custom order. Most stuff I do around here I'm burning calories for warmth. Walking that fine line between sweating and freezing.

Definitely would want to fly into YEG that time of year, no interest in doing that drive middle of winter.

I am wanting to do fewer cycles with more yields so I can take these breaks to do this kinda fun shit.
