Quitting Cigarettes?

Took me a few attempts before I fully quit. I weaned myself down from 2 packs a day to a smoke every 2 hours then I stopped. The first 48 hours are the worst as it purges out of your system. After that the challenge for me was the habbits. Beer / smoke. (quit drinking as well eventually) The after meal smoke. Man that was tough. It was a lot of will power & you have to be ready to quit. I ran into one guy that quit in 1 hypnotisim session. Others with those patches, everyone finds their way that works for them, eventually. Exercise also helped me a lot.

Lots of really sage advice in here already. :clapping:
@Smoke_A_Lot just dont quit quitting! I gave up cigs cold turkey after smoking 2 packs of non-menthols a day for over 20 years. Oct will be 14 years smoke free and it didnt happen on my first, second or even 10th time trying. My best advice to quit and be successful at it is to first "break routines". As mentioned already, most of peoples smoking habit is routine. Finish a meal -light a smoke....get in your car to drive somewhere -light a smoke.....sit down to work on the computer -light a smoke. Sometimes intensely concentrating on computer work, I would light up a cigarette when I already have one burning in the ashtray simply out of habit and routine. To quit for good, you have to break those routines and replace smoking with a new healthier alternative like a cinnamon jelly bean or some other simple reward to yourself every time you would normally fire up a smoke -at least for the first initial hump. Another bit of advice I would offer is to seperate yourself from other smokers and any form of temptation at least for the first 10 days or so. This is how long it takes for nicotine to clear from your system completely. Clear yourself of the physical addiction and after that its all mental. I pretty much hid out in the house because literally everyone I knew (family and friends) all smoked. Just remove yourself from the temptation and it gets easier with every day that passes. It was at about 2 months being smoke free before I felt I was truly 100% free of the habit. It then smelled different to me, and I didnt want to be around it if I didnt have to. I wondered how my life long non-smoker wife kissed me all those years smelling as gross and smokey as I did lol.

I did try Chantix in like 2003 and had some of the worst and realistic nightmares Ive ever had. They hit me deep mentally and I couldnt finish the script. Im still kind of haunted over 20 years later by the dreams I had that first week or so. Im sure it hits people differently, but my experience with it was traumatizing to say the least.

You can do it and, as @HydroRed so wisely suggests, don't quit quitting. Very few will win in the first round, but you don't lose until you quit trying. And it's so hard, and so worthwhile. Best of luck!
The longest I've went without smoking in all these decades was army basic training/OSUT for a few months. I had no choice but to stop cold turkey, I never fiend for a cigarette like that in my life. Doing ruck marches and PT well in nicotine withdrawal wasn't great, i was especially moody on top of everything else. Once I graduated I started right back up again. Like I said that stress and nervous energy is a a bitch.

That's more along the lines of what I'm thinking, to switch to vaping. The last thing I want to do is jack my tolerance up but if it happens so what? I get my hash related products dirt cheap anyway. Plus I may give up smoking the flower all together and start turning all my harvests into bubble hash.

the main problem with vapes is the lack of an off. i mean, there is a button on refillables yes. but cigarettes burn out in a good 5-7 minutes max and thats it. i can vape inside, outside, all day. so it does take monitoring your intake to make any real progress quitting

Two words - baby steps. First I'm gonna pickup an Elf Bar and see if I like it and go from there.. Only thing is since MA banned flavored vapes and menthol cigarettes they might not ship it to me. I tried once in the past to buy a flavored disposable vape online and they wouldn't ship it to me because of the ban.
My next option is nicotine patches and nicotine gum, I'm not sure if my insurance covers either but I'll figure it out. The Chantix would be my last option, like I said im not fond of taking pills.

They have the candy too. But they don't actually work. You are not quitting nicotene with them, you are continuing to use.
The patch never did anything for me. The gum...well that showed me if I chewed fast I could get a real nico rush :) The candy.........those are good and there's nothing like a good ciggy after finishing one, lol.
I have heard that big tobacco owns all those nicotene replacement but not sure if that's true.

One day playing golf, the guys ahead of us..well one guy hit three really crappy tee shots in a row and then he wigged out, pulled the patch of his shoulder and the went and wrapped his club around the ball washer. It was pretty funny actually.........man was he pissed, lololol
