Surfing Patrick's Point, in Trinidad Ca. - the beach was clear when we paddled out.
2 hours later, we were walking back and found a 3-400 # Elephant Seal cow with her belly torn out - about an 18" diameter bite and bright red arterial flow streaming down the beach.
She was FRESH, there was probably a hungry shark out there pissed off that lunch just got out of the pool.
My host told me that with a GWS (Great White Shark), you can figure about one foot of fish per one inch of bite.
18" bite = 18' fish......
Surfers look / smell / act weird.; not appetizing. Not saying it doesn't happen - a 20 footer visits every other year at Surf Beach. She attacked a few people before they figured out her schedule.
I was going to use the "Old fast food burger vs sirloin steak" analogy until I realized just how much Micky-D's I've shoved down my gullet over the years......
