Thank you for that. Alvin Lee needs a little more play these days.
Will explore Uriah Heep for sure. Have heard the name forever, but never took the time.... until now!!
Like several bands over the years, Uriah Heep hit an early home run w / Salisbury lp follwed by a rather mediocre career. Three tunes on Ten Years After 'Cricklewood Green' lp, and the rest I can and have lived w/out. Captain Beyond put out a debut LP like no other grand slam before or since, then lost their horse shoes I guess. Lots of millions of Eagles fans, which I am not one of, but the 2nd lp 'Desperado' with Bernie Leadon is superb all these years later.

Thanks a bunch. Listening now. Great guitar tone. Can you imagine being in the studio hearing this Sugar The Road getting laid down?

Spinning actual vinyl at an independent radio station probably provides some good memories.
If you had a 'go-to' really long track set aside for smoke/bathroom breaks, I'd love to know what it was....????
At the time I was also doing over-nights at KWVE 107.9 and there I had to stick to a playlist, but bathroom breaks at both stations were run to and fro as fast as possible. It became like any other job although being asked to announce bands coming on stage was a hoot AND a nanny and I did that for concerts in Long Beach and Lake Elsinore at the time. No $ in radio unless you're one of a dozen successful (lucky) ones.

Now look what you've done. I'm listening to a group of Canadians on Independence Day. What's that about?

Just LOVE the sound these 3 dudes make?

No harm in good music and good memories!!
Thanks for the reply and tunes.

Not sure if we've ever spun this one for you, but I think of you every time it plays, and it's played a lot!!!

If I knew how to post a video or a song from YouTube etc I'd post"4th of July" by X. John Doe and Exene are very cool. Not to mention Dave Alvin in there too, plus a shout out about his old band the Blasters. Have a great Independence Day everybody!
Click the 'media icon', then paste your youtube url in the bar. See below. I want to hear your song!!

How is there a side 3 on a vinyl 45 rpm disc?

What a way to start the day!
Happy 4th of July to you, if you celebrate!!

I've never looked it up to verify, and I should, but from about the 5th listen of Captain Beyond's spectacular first lp, I deduced that from beginning to end, it's a concept record - a musical LSD trip - representing all phases. The initial drift, the explosive lift off, the panic [Raging River of Fear], the rocky transition to awed observer of the fantastic ['Frozen Over'] ['Armworth'] to the final descent back to semi-normalcy.

About 10 years ago, someone posted the only live video of this period CB on YouTube, and I was stunned that they could play those tunes live with merely bass, drums, guitar, and some now and then percussion from vocalist Rod Evans. That 20 minute clip is all the reason I need to claim that YouTube THE rock and stoner's treasure trove.

Also - disregard and avoid any other 'live clips' by what is essentially a tribute band using the CB name.

The journey of a well planned album is definitely something missing today....except as you point out - YouTube.

posting Frozen Over below for anyone not reading details....????

A journey from the 70's today with Fragile and then Close to the Edge and back to the reason I fell in love with Yes in the first place. I'm feeling old today but still love this stuff.

Back in the day albums, especially the progers were mostly telling a story. Nothing like smoking a fatty and laying down with headphones to this or Darkside or any number of perfect albums. Add some shrums or blotter on occiasion and it was a party for hours.

Well, I learned something this morning... I hate it when that happens. Apparently 45 RPM Double vinyl LP's are a thing. In theory, "the faster speed allows for more information to be processed while playing. i.e. more detailed sound. All else equal, a 45 will always have more detail than a 33. Whether the listener can tell the difference is a different story." Huh.

Anyways, I fondly remember my Captain Beyond album, complete with the holographic cover art. Wonder where it ended up?

I've been plumbing some 70's Prog on YouTube, too - lots of awesome stuff I never heard of...
