Who loves fishing ?

No ? I've never gotten to take a crack at Saltwater before. I've got the Reels and the hooks though.
I’m the opposite. Never had a genuine go at freshwater . I can remember as a kid in New South Wales a friend of the family went to take me trout fishing in a stream and as we were tracking through the snake grass towards the stream a huge bush fly flew straight into my eyeball and ruined my whole day ?. Don’t really remember much after that . I know we didn’t catch anything . @Amarok your gonna see me one day . I’ll roll up like a big kid at Xmas chopping to hit your famous trout fishing adventures .
I’m 53 so hopefully sooner rather than later ??

Sold my boat yesterday. Wasn't even for sale . 8 years ago a bloke knocks on my door “ wanna sell your boat he asks ? “ nope I’m good thanks mate .
Yesterday he rocks up to my door again .
I’m like “ your back like 8 years later ? “
He asks again .
Sold ??.
I was ready this time as I have another boat . AAABD529-B86F-498C-AFC2-E57929739E8E.png

Errrrr what months can you chill in just a T shirt and a cold beer rod in hand soaking up a bit of UV . When you mention any temp and then add ‘ Below’ after it ?. How long does it take to climatize or is it like never

I knew an African man who had never seen a temp below 15C. He emigrated to Edmonton, Alberta in winter.

He said it was -35 and blowing snow when his plane landed. He was literally scared to leave the plane. He said his thought was "People can't live in this." He thought he might die, for real

By the time I met him, years later, he'd be out in -25 without a hat. He was as tough as any born Canadian when it came to weather(and always smiling, rain, shine, or blizzard).

You really do get accustomed to it.

If you check the link, our summers here are hot. Too hot for me. We have been getting a lot of 30C+ days in the last few decades. I hate that shit. 20-25C is perfect for me.

Oh, one other note. If you were ever a Star Trek fan, at some point you need to go somewhere and drive in a snowstorm with highbeams on. It looks like you are going through hyperspace.
?
I'm sure some of our Michigan boys and other snowbound types can testify.

I agree with the perfect temp range of 20-25C . We get runs of warm weather cranking up over 30 for weeks with heatwaves of 40-45 C with one day recently hitting 52C virtually wiping out my whole vegetable patch .
Nothing good happens on those days , Australia hates it because we are all waiting for somewhere to break out with bushfires that just cause massive losses to life and assets and wildlife .
Never been in the snow so it would be pretty cool but actually living in it half the year would be a challenge for me anyway . I’m pretty active and don’t like being restricted too much so indoors has its limits ?.

Lots of stuff to do, inside and out. :punkrocker:

December to March are hardcore winter here. November is Mother Nature's option, it can be mild or nasty. April often sees a lot of snow, but temps are mild and the snow is melting as fast as it's falling. Actually, those are two of the most challenging months. Winter or summer are fine, it's when you get both on the same day(sometimes in multiple cycles) that it's tough to prepare for; you wear a parka to work in the morning and have the A/C on for the drive home.

Most lakes around here are closed to fishing starting April 1 to protect the spawning walleye and pike. On a perfect year, I close the season on the ice, and the next day I'm down at the river. :)

You should really give those specific species a shot...it is extremely addictive...Tunas and Bonita's...eat the tunas, troll the Bonita's!...I hear the Square Grouper are best smoked?.
Those and a Tarpon! I'd love to hook into like a hundred pound Tarpon, just to see what that would be like lol. Also a Bull Shark too but not a huge one.

And yes we in Michigan have driven through a 90s screen saver lol!

Yeah I've caught Tarpon too many times...fun?...not so much...bullsharks...the scourge of the East Coast...the fish I previously told ya about...you would like them better...Big Bull Reds...Black Drum...Cero Mackerels, Spanish Mackerals...much more fun...Black Tips and Spinner sharks are fun to catch and good to eat...whereas a bullshark will taste like piss as they pass urea through their skin.

The Mackerel species would be awesome! They are on the list of best Catfish baits so I'd love to nail a few odd those lol. The Bullshark I want to catch and release so I'm not too worried about flavor. You didn't like the Tarpon?? I've seen them in videos and it looked pretty awesome really.

The largest thing I'm likely to catch locally is the Lake Sturgeon, which is a bucket list fish for me; my Grandpa landed one when I was little and it's the longest fish I've ever seen in person lol. We're allowed to keep one a year but I'm not sure I'd keep it until they're a bit more common. Mainly I want to pet it, get a picture, and touch the Barbels lol.

The sandpaper feel of their skin, the mouth that feels like the cartilage on a chicken-breast, the immense power, the awe when they go full airborne in a jump(and the falling tree crash when they slam back into the water)...I love everything about lake sturgeon.

In my new home, I'll have a lot more chances to target them come spring. I'm only 5 minutes from a large river system with a healthy population of dinos.:superhappydance:

I guess you could say I'm spoiled when it comes to saltwater fishing...I grew up working on commercial fishing boats before I was 18...done a lot of commercial rod n reel fishing my whole life...I have caught so many fish...it's just the fish I mentioned that really thrill me to catch...come on down to the east coast, you'll catch a bull shark for sure...fuckin nuisance...can't even get two fish to the boat in the same spot before they are on you...Sword fishing and Marlin fishing are hours upon days of boring nothing for fleeting moments of happiness.
Everyone has their own ideas of their fish of a lifetime...I have caught mine many times over...honestly though...flounder jigging, jerk baiting for Grey or Speckled Trout, spooning for Spanish...is as good as it gets!?
These lures catch them all!!!...I often put a stinger hook on them too.
