Yunnan Summer

1. Put seeds in mouth and cover with saliva.
2. Spit seeds out into container.
3. Cover with water and a small amount of Aloe Vera.
4. Soak 12 hours.
After the seeds have soaked 12 hours, plant them directly into soil. No need for paper towels!
I have found that a small container works well for me, it is easier for me to control the moisture in the seed starting mix.
I put about an inch of the premoistened Pride Lands "Grow" soil mix in the bottom of the 6-pack, and added a pinch of Mycorrhizal fungi.
The Mycorrhizal fungi is on the end of the tag:

Fill to the top with the premoistened fine seed starting mix (such as E B Stone seed starter):

Water well:

Using a pencil, make a hole to the depth of the pencil eraser:

Drop in seed:

I used the pencil to push the seed starting soil mix over the seed:

Put in a name tag.
Water well with a very fine drip or spray:

All ready to go!
It takes a week to 10 days for the seeds to "pop".
Note I had one empty spot in the 6-pack and I tagged it "empty" to avoid confusion.

I found a "lost" bud outside on the ground...
I turned it over and all these roots were coming out!
I amazes me how healthy plants can grow from something so disgusting...

So of course I pulled out a couple seedlings and planted them in a 6-pack.
With the roots pointing downwards I planted the whole bud in a one gallon container, lightly covered with soil.
I'm calling them "Gift".

I think pencil eraser depth is pretty clever. I was trying to tell a family member how deep to go this weekend but pencil eraser is perfect!

The pencil eraser depth is perfect!

I also like the saliva infusion, I think it gets the seeds in touch with the grower at a genetic level.
Some species of plants' seeds sprout better after passing through an animal.
The enzymes in the saliva might make the seeds think they have passed through an animal's digestive system and might sprout easier.

I still like the no-soak, damp paper towel method the best for special seeds. Fresh seeds often don't need a soak at all.

Looks beautiful there.
The sheer power and tenacity of mother nature, is fascinating to me.
I think I wasted too many years, caught up in work and the insanity of modern life.
I forgot to pay attention to the truly important, gifts all around me.

This has been the sentimental ramblings of a very high and happy gardener. ?
I hope you have a Epic, Yunnan summer. Peace
