Damn the growth rate is killin me. Seriously considering leaving the soil mix in the bags, and busting out the hydroton from the storage tubs..
I forgot just how fast they explode when running a tight hydro setup.
Awesome stuff man.. @spyralout .
Thanks jpc, it's really fun watching these things grow. I seriously think if there were no fan/pump/water noises I would actually hear them growing as they bush out. This is all motor/no bottle, so one of these days if I ever get a sealed enough room and environment, I would really like to play with CO2. ASD #1 acts as if it's already in stretch before flip. I wanna flip in 1-1/2 weeks, at a total of 3 weeks, may even push 4 weeks cuz I have the overhead clearance now.

Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

@SSGrower

Very James Bond on the splash page!
haha ?️‍♂️

What values are you targeting?
- in Veg, @ 82° F - 68% RH

Are these values typically greater than or less than the ambient environment eg. room?
- greater, it's our bedroom

Specifically with rh is the value you are targeting greater or less than the outside environment? Or are you running sealed with co2?
- greater, vs. both bedroom (House AC controlled) and outside (avg 35% RH going into summer, but it's been about 55% the last week including today). No co2.

Leaf temp or air temp?
- I use a spreadsheet calculator that has a leaf temp adjustment cell value (@NotAquaMan inspired me to do some homework with his spreadsheet tutorial, great thread on VPD by him here: VPD Explained). It also has settings for Clone/Veg/Flower. When I back into some of the base calcs, they match up with Aquaman's calcs.

What is your elevation or current absolute barometric pressure?
~370'
~30 in

Unrelated - Chance of changing "got a question?" to "have a question?"
Depends. I look at "proper" grammar differently than I used to. With the advent of the internet, slang and other colloquialisms have become more prevalent. I believe the main use of language is to communicate, whether that be in a "proper" sense or "informally accepted" sense.

Example:
1589645212635.png

While this is improper, what is the intent of communication, and how successful was this iconic campaign? Would it have been just as successful using the "proper" term, "have milk?"

"Informal" colloquialisms:
I need to take a whizz
I need to have a whizz

^ which one have you used, not necessarily exact words, but you get the idea.

Excerpt from a popular song (not necessarily a fav of mine):

Aint No Rest For The Wicked
Cage The Elephant - Cage The Elephant

Oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked
Money don't grow on trees
I got bills to pay
I got mouths to feed

There ain't nothing in this world for free

It can be changed. But should it be changed? I guess that all depends ?

I'd like to hear from anyone else who has thoughts on the matter :)

Words are important. My only rule is leave no ambiguity. If I say something or post something whether grammatically correct or not I want there to be no doubt what I mean. Constantly messing with my kids about word choices and how things they say or post can be misconstrued intentionally and easily. Clear and concise, leave no room for interpretation.
Other than that I accept nuanced regional dialect everywhere I travel. From you guys to y'all to yinz so as lomg as I know what you mean Im good.

very well said GCG, I share in your sentiment. Text can be misconstrued quite easily, and often times when there is a discussion, the context can be misinterpreted as having a different "tone" - which is funny to me, because how can text have a "tone?" I guess that in itself is a "text colloquialism" ?

Flashbacks of that ad campaign inserting itself into my vernacular, then having my mom yell at me is what triggered the question. Like a read it snd it was "insert full name here including middle name(s)" use proper english! Though she had no problem with contractions like y'all amd ain't. LOL

Will make a deeper dive on that vpd thread saw the calc looks like its standardized for a specific temp differential regardless of led vs hid? where I have seen the differential is greater for led than hid, you have both a cmh and led so curious where you land there.
Sea level basically then. I believe enthalpy plays a role, given same rh and temp at different evevations / barrometric pressures there is a slight difference in the enthalpy of the air. This is why hvac folks use piezometric tabels to size air handling units and firefighters use them to deterimine the risk of a wildland fire getting hinkey on them. These tables are set up based on elevation hvac uses about 5 to cover sea level to 15K ft. and firefighters use about 18 or so. Science baby!

The spreadsheet has a cell where you can enter the differential yourself. My leaf temps have been between 2-4°F less than ambient. IDK how accurate the laser gun is at what distance, but I've tried at various distances and get about the same.

There is a web site for that.

Leaf temp seems kind of like schrodingers cat. Sensors that touch the leaf have an impact on the temperature but I think the ones in horticulture use today would be the gold standard, stuff that I could source to run on the arduino I would not have much confidence in. I think dstroy found some pro grade sensors. The lasers are going to be close, but I think as you may have seen difficult to get accurate AND precise measurement. I would also suspect the differential to change theoughout the day. At the end of day does it matter? How close do you need to get? (Rhetorical but answer if you want)

So I heard some chatter in the 5x5.

20200518_GC1.jpg
Green Crack #1 was telling her neighbor, "I'm catching up to you! :watchingyou:"
20200518-GC1-roots.jpg
She even flashed her pearly white fishbone roots

Her neighbor, Amherst Sour Diesel #1, said, "Not so fast, breezy"
20200518-ASD1-roots.jpg

...I'll let those two debate that for a bit.

Despite a challenging last few days, we're starting off the week right. Our beloved @Schwaggy P is BACK and I couldn't be more excited for what he has in store for us. It's been too long my friend :phenohunt:

Found these in the garage, had em for about 7 years, still brand new. Used the old RDWC buckets. Trim isn't doing any good just sitting there.

This was the cheapest machine on ebay. Only one speed, manual drain. Extremely basic. 3x 5 minute washes, could probably do more.

I have the same set of bags (Grow Your Own). Bought it off ebay and came short 1 bags & had a duplicate of another bag as well lol. Only paid like $19 for it so couldnt complain. I made a ton of hash from em. Be careful with them though, specially considering their age. Mine began to peel from the inside. The latex layer applied to the inside of the bags will become brittle and flake off in your wash.

NOW. You have my attention.

is this the yield from one pull or did you combine all of them?

I'm not using the bags in the washing machine, but yes I was watching for that as I lifted buckets to let water seep through. Good lookin out (y)

all 3 pulls, but the water is still gold. I have a separate glob not pictured of the finest mesh screen, it's a bit darker. A buncha water was splashing around so I have learned from this experience on how to set up the buckets and maneuver better next time.

The colder everything is the better it works imo fresh frozen is the way to go to. I like it as a winter activity cold as f' but I dont have a walk-in freezer.
Just puting the bags in the freezer helps but if you have enough ice, prechill the buckets with ice water.

tip: wrap that machine you used in bubble insulation wrap if you haven't already ~ ice is only there to keep it cold. too much ice ..crunching ..more plant matter.. if you can keep temps cold with less ice you will get less plant matter also.

I use a wash bag, has mixed reviews but did well. layered ice/material/ice/material till half full threw in washer..

Right O ! Definetly pre chill buckets I was thinking of a bucket of ice water with a water pump running out a sprayer head for cleaning...

Thanks for the tip Deebs ? I was trying to keep it all as cheap as possible and reusing as many things that I already had. I figured, why not use the old RDWC buckets with the 1-1/2" holes out of each side. They had no problem leaking water out everywhere in my tent lol, so I figured the holes would be enough. Next run I am going to drill holes in the bottom so I don't have to lift and tilt to the side to let it run through to each bucket.

Since I am not doing the mixing in the bags, then how would I pre-chill water in the buckets? The water just runs through. It doesn't sit in the buckets long enough to have anything pre-chilled.

The buckets with holes sounds like it would make cleaning easier. It fits that use case...
I bought extras, not too bad at home depot for 5gal >< filled with ice and water put a lid on top lol... I'd then insulate em....

Ive had a 5 gal set of bubble bags for 7 years, one is rough but have, served me well. Used to freeze distilled water to run them.
Ive been on a blasting kick lately though.
