So is cricket as boring as baseball?? ? (sorry baseball fans)

Also where are hockey and soccer/football here?
Cricket can be boring unless your a purist of the sport . Really depends on the format being basically 3 in General : Test Cricket , One Day Cricket and 20/20 Cricket. 20/20 being the most aggressive attacking form of Cricket which can be anything but boring if you have two really attacking teams opposing . As for Hockey we differ again . Your on Ice , we are on grass or Astro turf and Soccer yeah it’s just Soccer ………… my son would kill me for saying that . He’s a Soccer player and enthusiast ?.

I'm a rugby guy from the US, played high school, U19, and collegiate. Wish it'd take hold more in the States, we've got the athletes to compete, just need to train them in rugby from children up to be competitive to Oz, NZ, RSA, etc
That is one tough game . I grew up playing Australian Rules football and never tried Rugby but I have the greatest respect for the sheer courage and strength those guys display . They virtually run head on into each other with no padding or guards taking hit after hit . Seems less tactical compared to many field sports and more sheer brute force . You have to admire New Zealand for a nation of ony a few million how dominant the All Blacks have been over decades. The Maori boys are the perfect fit for Rugby Union .

This is why I struggle with Soccer

Yeah, that's the same sentiment why US football fans say they dislike soccer lol. But personally while I'd love to see less flopping in soccer (and basketball, though it seems they're trying to fix that this year to some extent), I still love it, especially the World Cup. Even though the US is hopeless. I wish people cared more about soccer here, the MLS is a joke. After watching the rest of the worlds soccer leagues for my whole life the MLS is like watching an amateur pickup league.

Rugby seems fun. I'll have to see if I can find some feeds and watch a couple games.

I can't watch American Football. I usually watch the super bowl but that's mostly for the Buffalo wings, beer and camaraderie. But the sport itself just doesn't hold my attention. Same with baseball.... a summer afternoon at Fenway is always an absolute blast but it's never on my television. Basketball is my sport of choice. And I'll watch every playoff hockey game but zero before that every year.

I strongly recommend checking out some Oilers highlights. They are looking spectacular.

McDavid and Draisatl are both averaging over 2pts/game ( a point per game average makes you a star). The Bison King, Jesse Puljujarvi, is a joy to watch. 22yo defenseman Bouchard is looking like he'll be special. The whole team is coming together is a way that will make them tough to beat.

In a league where the best ever power play scored on 31% of their chances, the Oil are at 50% this year.

The only real question mark is in goal. This is the starter:

If wanting it was enough, he would have 10 Cups. Mike Smith is big and tough and ferocious, but he's also 39.

It should be a fun ride.

I think I can tell by your choice of sports that any stop / start style of game isn’t for you and I agree . I watch a bit of NFL and can understand most of it but it’s very stop / start as well which kind of loses my attention . Having said that I appreciate the tactical side of the game and the skill involved . Also it caters for all size athletes .
Seriously you should try and watch Aussie Rules abit if you like a fast sport . Yeah I sound biased but it really is a fast flowing game . Australia has taken a lot from America in how it presents the game and coaching ideas tactically .

Since about 1981. This is a hell of a rivalry.

And I take it it pulls people through the turnstiles so the Hockey League just rolls with it . Give the people what they want ?
It isn't like the old days where teams employed a 6'4", 240 pound gorilla who could barely skate and played 3 minutes a game.

People who know hockey understand the role fighting plays, and it is an important role.

Even though fights are quite rare in the NHL these days, there is nobody, not owners, players, or coaches, who wants to completely eliminate it from the game.

There are a lot of ways to play dirty without being penalized. If a player is doing dirty shit, something which can often cause an injury, and it isn't being called by the refs, the players can "police themselves". That is how it is referred to.

Or maybe last time you played, one of their guys hurt one of your guys, and you still need payback. Dropping the gloves can clear the air. The offender answers the bell and, win or lose, the incident is usually put behind them.

It's a weird system, but the players all understand and accept it.

Thanks for clarifying that as best you could because I was genuinely wondering where the limits were and who prevented someone from being majorly messed up . I’m thinking when does someone get disqualified or penalised or misses games through suspension ? I know you have the sin bin right ?

I do enjoy hockey but unfortunately the season is the same as the NBA, and basketball will always be my go to. I don't miss many Celtics games, and haven't since I was a little.

It isn't like the old days where teams employed a 6'4", 240 pound gorilla who could barely skate and played 3 minutes a game.

I did attend a lot of Bruins games as a kid too though, and remember these days well. Saw quite a few fights and even a couple bench clearing brawls over the years!
