Ideas to bounce around:

I have gotten some pollen for Thousand Oaks. I've read that this is so pungent, that pets have thrown up from the smell when it's drying after a harvest. Exciting news for sure.

I've got a list of stuff in my head that I want to toy with, and some of them I should at least get down on here so I have somewhere to remember it.

Thousand Oaks :

Obnoxious.. Repugnant.. Abhorrent.. Violently DANK..

Thats how best to describe the smells and tastes that Thousand Oaks exudes. Filters must be used in vegetative state as the scents are high diesel and rubber with a sweet underlying tone that makes it linger and stick to everything. This strain has been responsible for giving people head aches and making family pets throw up at the smell during harvesting. If this combination of terpene’s and flavanoid’s had a name it would be ABUSIVE. Finished flowers will make seasoned veteran smokers tap out due to strength. Saliva factor of 9/10 on wake N bake bong load. Not for the inexperienced or weekend warrior. My own personal favorite for strength and impressing other smokers, Effects are heavy eye closer. This may be the ultimate HEAVY hitter we offer at the moment. Pinene and Mercyene just coat the mouth and hang there with every hit with this absolute day wrecker.
With marketing like this it's amazing I hadn't heard of it before.

Thousand Oaks X Blue Cheese S1
Thousand Oaks X Chem DMT (I've had it told to me by a very trusted person that Chem DMT brings a Mothball funk to the table)
Thousand Oaks X Alpha Skunk Cheese
Thousand Oaks X Chemdog 4BX
Thousand Oaks X Sin City Juice
Thousand Oaks X Dead Whabbits (Oh I can picture this one in my head... The smell should be.... hehe)

The Chem DMT are fem seeds, so, I'm thinking that as a female, with a clone of whatever other male I can find that is worth keeping. I know enough about this now, that I don't want to keep just any male I get. It's REALLY hard for me to keep a male plant around here. The risk of accidental pollination is a concern, but not a deal breaker. But keeping male clones going for a bit while I'm deciding what to do, and then flowering out a tent so I can do my crosses, is pretty hard really. I'm a newcomer to the world of flowering a plant in a tent. Before this, I only used a tent for starting seedlings, and then, for getting clones started of the plants I cut clones from, but once they're ready, they'd all go outside to finish. After this season though, I was able to actually do this, so, now my mind is full of ideas.

I do have the seeds made from my first project, but none have been ran as of yet. I do have a decent amount of Black Cheese X Susie Cream Cheese, and as of the other day, I found some Alpha Skunk Cheese X Susie Cream Cheese, which I'm excited about too.

I have quite a few plans with Fiona's Chem Cake, which I may HAVE to run this season again. We're almost out, and to date, nothing has ever been better for stomach issues than this. I just got back from my Uncle's house, as he has been having issues with his again, so I brought him a bag of that. The sheer amount of help this strain offers, is astounding to me. I'm grateful I have more of this one, and plan on running some experiments. I feel like adding some Cheese pollen in to her, will give me a chance at more options in the offspring.

Fiona's Chem Cake X Alpha Skunk Cheese
Fiona's Chem Cake X Dead Whabbits
Fiona's Chem Cake X Sin City Juice
Fiona's Chem Cake X Susie Cream Cheese
Fiona's Chem Cake X Blue Cheese
Fiona's Chem Cake X Chemdog 4 BX
Fiona's Chem Cake X Cheetos (Boy that one would be potent... Can't smoke either of those two if I've got driving to do LOL)

(These are assuming I find something worth while):
Alpha Skunk Cheese X Cheetos (Not named as of yet) X Fiona's Chem Cake
Alpha Skunk Cheese X Cheetos X Dead Whabbits
Alpha Skunk Cheese X Cheetos X Chem DMT

Dead Whabbits X Cheetos (Night of the Living Cheese?) X Chem DMT
Night of the Living Cheese X Fiona's Chem Cake
Night of the Living Cheese X Sin City Juice (Zombie Cheese Juice? LOL)

Cheetos X Blueberry Cheesecake (Not named yet) X Chem DMT

I think I'll stop here for now. I just needed a spot to get these out where I have a list to aim for. Some of these will depend on what I find. I know every seed I pop isn't going to be a stand out must breed with plant. I understand that, but I have goals for things I want to try.

How do I choose what to breed with ? Well, no matter if it's a male or a female, I feel like using the same criteria is important:

Smell and Structure come in heavy for me. I go on and on about the structure of certain plants I see, and how much I love the way they look / grow, and the strength of a branch. Sure, I could just use netting to secure branches, but if I find a plant with strong branches that won't bust off to begin with so easy, I take that as a plus.

Smell probably doesn't need much explanation given my "usual" question for ....EVERY strain I see you guys growing LOL. Smell is more than important to me though. All weed can have decent THC in it if grown right. And THC is THC, but Terpene production on the other hand? That's where the gold mine is in my opinion. THAT is what got me going in the first place. Smell is more important to me than resin production to be honest. I feel like proper nutrition and care = good resin production. If the plant is getting what it needs, it'll give you what you need.

It's no secret I'm looking for plants that smell like someone left a cooler full of deer guts outside for a month in August. But, you know, with that dirty Hippy Feet and Cheese smell on top. And some Animals pee on that...And then someone pours Gasoline all over that.... Hahaha

Resin Production is one of those things that, I know a lot of people select males based on them being resinous, and I do like seeing some sparkly balls on my dudes too, but, anyone have any advice here ?

At the end of the day, the male that has a pungent odor, and great structure, is going to be my selection over one that smell like cotton candy, and is covered in resin. That's just how I roll, at least for now. Ideal conditions obviously would be a male that smells like I didn't shower for a month, and just as sticky, but sometimes the male might stand out to me, and be too nice not to keep I guess.

I've been putting a lot of thought into the stuff I crossed this season, and though a few plants didn't have many seeds, which was due to the size, and me flowering them out in solo cups, I can't let those ones go, because there's a few I ended up with 4 or 5 seeds total.

Then there are some where I got over 30, so I'm totally fine sending some out, and I've seen interest in them, and I'd like to be able to send some out at some point, so I need to know how many people are interested.

The ones I have the most of, are these:

Black Cheese X Susie Cream Cheese (like 30 of those)
Chemdog 4 BX X Cheetos (over 30)
Alpha Skunk Cheese X Cheetos (over 30)

I'd like to keep like 12 or 15 of these for me to play with, but I also would really like to see what someone else thinks. I mean, 10 would likely be enough for me to see if I did anything good or not, so, who is interested?

They aren't named yet, as I thought the smell, taste, and effects would likely be a part of what I named them, so, if anyone truly wants some, the main thing, MAIN thing, that I ask, is honesty, and scent description. I need to know what they smell like. Taste description would be nice too, along with noticeable effects, but I don't really care if you document the growing or not.

Everyone here has been awesome, so I'm not really trying to act like these are testers or something. I don't care about getting pictures, I want smells. I mean if they hermie out, a heads up would be appreciated too, but, mostly, what's it smell like?

Anyway, anyone who's interested, hit me up.

I've been reading through this article, with a slight giggle, given what they say LOL.

Ask a Bud Tender... Hahahahahahahaha.

Some good stuff to be learned though:

Organic compounds like butyric acid can be pleasant when found in parmesan cheese, yet repellent when smelled in vomit. It's possible that some harvests that smell like poop simply have higher levels of aroma compounds that most flower only contains in trace amounts.

One component is pungent, cheesy isovaleric acid, which smells like sweaty feet and is found in cheese-scented strains. Other likely suspects include caprylic acid, which has a musty, rancid smell; sulfurous, garlicky thiols; and the rotting, cabbagey methyl mercaptans that cannabis shares with hops.

Since stinky weed isn't highly sought after, it's possible these compounds are produced when a grower hits upon a particularly funky phenotype. That's what happens with “Cat Piss,” a term used to refer to several strains with completely different genetics; when a particular plant displays a strong scent of ammonia, it'll earn the unflattering moniker.

Despite those warnings, he said, “I'm not going to be the person that tells somebody to throw out their weed. I don't want to forget what it was like to have very limited choices in your weed. If that's your quarter ounce of weed to get through the next couple of weeks, whether that's financial or whether that's just access to cannabis, I know how hard of a decision that could be.”
A Quarter ounce lasting weeks ? What ? If the weed smells like that, it's unlikely to last me a day....

Anyway, the part about weed smelling like rotting Cabbage, is apparently from Humulene ?? I mean, I know there's likely more to it than that, but, anyone had weed smell like that before ? German and Irish... Rotting Cabbage weed sounds interesting :)

Yeah sign me up for the poopy strain lol love me some dirty diaper strains.

So if your weed smells like your fecal matter can you say that you shit weed

Someday there just going to say smells like good weed

You know Schwaggy's Chem D apparently smells exactly like that!! Man I would love to see his garden lol.

Lol! Oh man that's good stuff. I can tell you that I've "sweated" dank before, lol, I was really sweaty one hot summer day, and I smelled not unlike GMO haha.

Yeah, I read through this, and apparently new smokers are really into the fruit and dessert stuff, which, I can understand that sort of. My first weed memory is being a kid and smelling what I thought was a Skunk spray, and an older relative was like "that's not a Skunk..." and I was so interested by that. I mean clearly I was.... lol I still remember. And it lead to Cheese!!

Things to ponder about aroma and remind myself of when I start deciding what is next for my breeding projects:

I may well have a proper Skunk, and there are SO many things I'd love to do with that... The Terpene Profile alone, would have me dusting so much stuff!

I'm contemplating running a few of the Blue Cheese mystery cross seeds at some point, to find the one I had before, which smelled like Skunk and Cat Urine. The Cat Urine smell was way stronger than the Skunk smell though, but with actual Skunk, all I'd need is a male.

I have a LOT of new Cheese crosses I haven't updated my list with yet, but I'm excited to see what else is in there of course. The Wife likes more of the sweeter / fruity strains, though she does tolerate the stuff I like the most too, since the effects are always good. One of the strains we both go for, is the Gelato #33, but sadly I can't breed with that for anything other than personal stash smoke, since it's bag seed. The Wife doesn't care personally, and neither do I, but she think it would be a good idea to try and cross Susie Cream Cheese with Gelato #33, since she REALLY loves those ones. Skywalker is another candidate for that too, and I'm almost certain that most of the seeds for that are now actually a mystery cross. I had WAY more males than you'd think possible for what I thought was a self pollination. The numbers just don't add up like that though. If they did I need to buy a lotto ticket.

My plans for the coming season, are to pick out a few seeds of each strain I intend to run, and see what I get first, and THEN decide which ones stand out. If I get a truly amazing looking male, but not a female of a strain, then, I guess that decision is made, but there's some other feminized stuff I'm going to run too (Chem DMT only comes as fem) and I fully intend to pollinate THAT Gem. I don't think it's any shock that I have a love for Chem D, and Chem DMT is about as close as I'm likely to get to the real deal.

Shit.... I have Alpha Skunk Cheese X Cheetos that I did, and if I can run that, and end up with a male, that may well be the pollen for that one.

I'll likely just take clones of whatever the Wife wants, and then see which ones she's interested in using for the tent, where I'll house some clones of a male. I can't really choose another male to stick in the same tent that I'm going to flower out, because there'd be no way to know what was hit by what, but if I find something truly exceptional, I may stick him outside. That's what I did with the Susie Cream Cheese male, and I did get some stuff from that. The Black Cheese plant I had right behind him, had lots of seeds in the lowers, but so far, nothing has been found in anything above that.

Any suggestions ?

I'm reading an article and I think I have new breeder goals:

Durian

This notorious fruit can smell so bad that it recently led to a massive evacuation at a University in Melbourne after students feared there was a gas leakage.

Turns out, it was a rotten durian fruit that caused the students to panic, the smell of which got carried over the university's air conditioning.

According to a study, the durian fruit gets its characteristic smell from 44-odour active compounds that can smell like anything from a rotten egg to delicious caramel.

That's a REAL goal; A bunch of college kids get a whiff and panic and run.

Rafflesia arnoldii

AKA, the Stinking Corpse Lily! It literally smells like a dead, decaying and rotting corpse, with a hint of fish and sweaty socks for good measure.
These bloom more than Amorphophallus titanum (Funny name if you know what it translates too :) ) but are endangered :( I'd grow them but I doubt I'll find them.
Vieux Boulogne

The Vieux Boulogne is the smelliest cheese in the world. One scientist even subjected it's smell to an electronic nose, a device that detects urinary infections and tuberculosis on which it tested positive!

It's no surprise then that some describe the cheese as smelling like a cows behind.
 OK, new Cheese breeder goals too. Yeah! Cow Ass Cheese!

-----------------------------

*sigh* you'd think trying to find out the names of specific terpenes that have specific qualities would be easier to find.

The umami effect of Cheese is unique in the cannabis kingdom, but is not unique in the plant or animal kingdom. Durians for example are a foul smelling fruit. The aroma is so foul that it is banned on the Singapore mass transit system. The flavour though is beyond heavenly. As is the attraction with umami type foods they leave a flavour on the palate that is wondrously creamy, maybe honey and berries or even smooth macadamia. The renowned Indonesian coffee Kopi Luwak is imbued with its eccentric flavour as it passes the anal glands of Civet cats to which raw coffee beans have been fed. Other animal musks desired by humans as flavourings and for use in perfumery include Castoreum from the perineal glands of beavers and musk from the antlers of musk deer. These powerfully smelling substances are diluted to make vanilla and raspberry flavours in sweets and attractive smells in perfumes and eau de toilette's. Because of their particular genetics, some people can't detect this smell at all!
No solitary element is responsible for the smell of the Cheese strain, but the subtle combination of many. Included are terpenes such as octanoic acid, which has an unpleasant oily and rancid smell, methyl tert-butyl ether, which has a fruity smell similar to pineapple, ethyl methyl acetic acid, which has a sweet smell similar to pear drops, hexanoic acid, which smells like animals or a barnyard and methyl mercaptan, which smells like rotten cabbage or animal feces. Isovaleric acid is the most prevalent terpene in the Cheese strain. Elsewhere it is produced by the Staphyllococcus epidermidis bacteria when it breaks down proteins in sweat. It is partially responsible for the smell in locker rooms or unwashed linen. It is the active anti-convulsive and soporific constituent of valerian root and is one of the esters that give wine its taste and aged cheese that distinctive smell. The volatile esters of isovaleric acid have pleasing, lingering smells that have similar effects to pheromones so it is often used as an aromatic both industrially in solvents and domestically in perfumery.

Well, getting closer anyway.

Anyone mind listing stuff they have come across that was particularly stinky? Like a proper lip curl reaction?

Side question; has anyone ever had a Sativa Landrace actually stink? Afghanistan and other near by areas are the only places I know that have that capability and I don't know much about Sativas. HBZ you love those, and enjoy the stank, have you ever seen this?
Grape Marmalade and Flapjacks both from in-house and both brought insane terps . The Grape Marmalade is a grape pie cross and tested 6.5 !

I've never had those before, what were they like? By the way bro, did you see my post about the Dead Whabbits taste?? I tight it'd be right up your alley honestly; the initial flavor you get, is pure Apple Cinnamon Pancakes, and then she goes for spicy funk after that. Pretty incredible given the burnt steak smell lol.
I grew a Barney’s gelato that smelled straight up like raw sewage, and that’s from someone who has worked in domestic wastewater.
 bro I actually love Gelato #33, which is odd, given the dessert like aroma and taste lol. I don't know anything about the Barney's one, which did he use?? The only raw sewage terps I've ever read about, were a specific pheno of Mazar I read about.

I forgot to update this:

So, I was going back and forth on popping another Alpha Skunk Cheese seed, because I REALLY love that stuff, and there's only two of those left, and both are fems, so I kept pondering the fact that I have a cross I did with her already. So, I popped some seeds of the Alpha Skunk Cheese X Cheetos I did, and as of yesterday, I moved 4 of the seeds into my tent, as they had taproots on them already.

I still saved some seeds of that so I can send some out, but I have been using this thread as basically an inspiration / Breeder Goals thread, so, I might as well update here for the stuff I end up finding. I'm not really sure what to expect honestly, as it's my first time doing this, but I'm hoping for some good stuff in those. I didn't think I'd have as many pop as I did, so any I don't find great, may get cut down quickly just to have room for everything. I know exactly what I'm looking for, so, hopefully I'll find that in those seeds. I selected parents that had qualities I like, and I'm hoping that I get some stuff that'll stress test a carbon filter. I don't own one, but, some people do, and I'd love to hear one day that it didn't help with the smell LOL.

How's Blueberry muffin x cheese sound? I stumbled across this yesterday.

I grew out Hogback's Blue Cheese X Blueberry Muffin two seasons ago, and it's fantastic! She's a bit hard outdoor here, because of the Humidity levels in Fall, but she produces well enough that you still get a lot of good smoke from her. Smells a lot like a Blueberry Ice Cream sort of thing, and the buds turned colors, while the leaves stayed green, which looked amazing honestly:

^those are with the flash on.

This is without a flash:

The buds turned out beautifully, and the effects are nice too bro :)

Those are a few shots from when she was still in the garden. But yeah bro, she turned out really nice. I'd say it was a great combo. The effects are pretty strong, and anyone who I've let try that one, has loved it. All around easy grow, ate the Nutrients and did her thing out there.
