Thanks for clarifying that as best you could because I was genuinely wondering where the limits were and who prevented someone from being majorly messed up . I’m thinking when does someone get disqualified or penalised or misses games through suspension ? I know you have the sin bin right ?
In 99% of cases, hockey fighting is on an honour system. Both guys agree to go, they drop their gloves, and as soon as one guy has lost(or they are too tired to continue), it is over.

There was a great one a couple years ago where a European rookie went after a veteran. The vet popped the kid a couple times, saw he was in over his head, so he stopped punching and called the refs in to end it without further damage.

Years back they brought in the "instigator" rule. If one guy attacks another without it being an agreed thing, the instigator gets a 1 game suspension (iirc). This is when the era of sending the gorilla out to kill ended.

Oh yeah, the Sin Bin, aka the penalty box.

Most infractions are a "minor" penalty (holding, tripping, interference, delay-of-game, etc), which means the offender sits in the Sin Bin for 2:00 and his team plays one man short. This is called a Power Play for the other team. If you score on the PP, the penalty is over and the sinner is released to do the skate of shame back to the bench.

If two players fight, they get a "major" penalty and they sit in the Bin for 5:00. The teams still play at full strength and there is no Power Play.

Some really bad one-sided fouls are also called "major" penalties, but the offender is in the box for 5 full minutes and his team plays a man short for that time.

here , we have state of origin rugby league , which is contested between queensland and new south wales and is the best of 3 matches .
these guys are absolute warriors without a doubt !
over the years the game has been dumbed down a bit and now the on field brawls are almost non existent . in 1987 one round was played in the usa , Long Beach i think . the boys came onto the ground and an all in brawl erupted which mostly continued for the whole game ..hahaha .. bloody epic it was ! NSW won .. pricks ! the media interviewed some of the yankee spectators and they were unanimous in saying , " damn , you guys sure are little but you sure can play footy " they loved it !
it is frowned on now and to be honest i think the game has become more professional , .. but , still nothing like a good bit of biffo ! same with the rivalry between australia and new zealand , it may be decided by a match but a bloody good fight settles it ..lolhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7mg19ImZyU

I strongly recommend checking out some Oilers highlights. They are looking spectacular.

McDavid and Draisatl are both averaging over 2pts/game ( a point per game average makes you a star). The Bison King, Jesse Puljujarvi, is a joy to watch. 22yo defenseman Bouchard is looking like he'll be special. The whole team is coming together is a way that will make them tough to beat.

In a league where the best ever power play scored on 31% of their chances, the Oil are at 50% this year.

The only real question mark is in goal. This is the starter:

If wanting it was enough, he would have 10 Cups. Mike Smith is big and tough and ferocious, but he's also 39.

It should be a fun ride.

Here’s one for you if you haven’t seen it before

Not unlike the AFL in that it was better to watch in the 80s and 90s in many ways . They started to overgovern and sterilise the game from what made it so great . The big hits , the big brawls , the intimidators etc were all slowly weened out of the product we have today . Gladiators turned into overpaid pretty boys .
What happened to the characters ? The entertainers ? The crowd favourite ?
Bring back the biff !!!

@Amarok, great pic mate, brought back some memories as a kid living in Edmonton in the 80's.

I've still got a signed puck from Grant Fuhr.

Go the Oilers!
Well hell, it really is a small world, isn't it? Are you Canadian originally?

Yeah, that is one of the iconic photos and match-ups of the 80's. No idea how many times Dave Semenko(RIP) and Tim Hunter scrapped, but it was a lot. Hunter was one of the toughest guys in the league but Cementhead was the Heavyweight King. Hunter lost to #27 more often than not, but he never refused the challenge.

Here's the losing goalie from earlier, Cam Talbot. He KNEW he was going to get his ass kicked even before he started skating toward 6'5", 220lb Smith, but he also knew that it needed to be done.
Respect.

(As a minor bit of additional weirdness, each of those goalies played for the other team the previous year. )

The best part is hearing how his wife gave him shit after, and how she was so pissed off that she got pissed at the game and Cam had to drive her car home. :ROFLMAO:
