Did you scope for bugs? Perhaps Mg deficiency as you said
Thrips. I finally found one on the underleaf. I think my weekly doses of Plant Therapy kept them knocked back and the damage was hidden behind nutrient deficiencies while I sorted out Jacks. I never had thrips and this infestation probably came from the cuts I received. Specifically, the Forum Cut never really took off and was weak the whole time. Had to axe it because the main stalk look like it had decay all over it and leaf stems turned to dust when I plucked them. My current problem is I have allowed it to get into everything in the veg tent, so now I'm fighting a battle throughout my grow. It's not devastating yet and I'll see if daily applications of plant therapy can eradicate them before too long.

Damn. Let’s see what Plant Therapy can do.

I had my suspicions about that one. Hopefully you knock em out for the count?
Elusive sons of bitches. I'd scoped multiple times and seen nothing. It became more apparent when I move the infected plants into flower. Maybe the freaks come out at night or something.

Double up with some nematodes in the soil and they should be retreating in no time. Interrupting their lifecycle is key to getting the upper hand with them.
Breaking up previous spider mites infestation worked with the every other day for a week (5 treatments), that doesn't seem to work as well on the thrips so I moving up the treatments to a daily dousing.

I have used spinosad for thrips with limited effectivness. A two pronged approach really is necessary. That being said, thrips are a minor nuisiance and do mostly cosmetic damage IME. They may slightly lower yeilds but that is it. They are nothing like mites.

I have a theory about thrips... I think with legalization in so many states and the sudden surge in demand for premixed planting mediums we've artificially created a perfect environment for them to proliferate. They're safe from natural predators in our gardens and are left to to just procreate into perpetuity unless we actively intervene. Because of all their life stages they can be hard to eradicate. In the past people always told me they were easy to knock out and not very common so I've been thinking a lot about why there's this sudden emergence of so so many infestations, and why they seem so hard to get rid of.... and at least in my case, I think I've just been reintroducing them over and over by buying my potting mix from the same store.

I still don't have them knocked out but I've managed to push them back but it required attacking them at each life stage. Nematodes or Mosquito Dunks for the larvae, Spinosad or Plant Therapy (or both in my case) for the pupa, and sticky pads to snag the flying adults. The pupa like to hide where the branches meet the stem or under bud sites so they're hard to see.

Feel like I'm turning into an amateur entomologist trying to get rid of these things...

They spend part of their lifecycle in the soil,
I am hoping it's a bit easier to eradicate in the perlite substrate I am using. Unless they have a hotel in the rockwool from the clone company and that might take something more drastic.

As much as I hate having bugs I do appreciate the fact I can experience what they do. Being able to identify the damage earlier is a skill

I tend to read alot more than I post, but I just had to say dang @Buck5050 you've got some gorgeous plants going on in here. ??? I'll have to pop in here more often. ???
As a side note about the thrips.
I've had thrips before too, they happen. ?‍♂️
I've also had good luck with getting rid of them by dusting some DE on the topsoil, plants stems, and dusting the plants themselves prior to budding out. Has effect on most all soft bodied insects, especially soil born basterds.
I continue to do my topsoil dusting regularly through all life cycles as part of my IPM, but avoid any of the buds during flower.

If you are using perlite and have the ability to bottom water try a semi permeable barrier on the top of your pots. If you can deny them access to your substrate surface it will interrupt their lifecycle as well.
Great info fellahs. I'll keep my eyes on the substrate and see what I can do in that department. (y)

Though these pests have made the lower level of the plant look like shit, the plants' growth is still looking good just like G referred to. The whole operation has had 5 full-coverage sprays since last Saturday and the last two have been consecutive. I plan on continuing the treatment for a few more days consecutively and then I'll reassess. The Damage has noticeably slowed the past few days and is especially apparent inside my veg area.
