I kept scrolling and waiting to see this one and was shocked it wasn't here:

And a few days after I posted that, Mr McGowan is gone at 65 years old.
To anyone who followed him, even peripherally, this is no surprise. He lived the life and he paid the toll.
May he finally be at peace.
(the song is posted because it is a favorite of mine. the lyrics, particularly the chorus, are not intended as a eulogy)

Trying to expand my jazz knowledge. I tend to enjoy the music when I hear it, but I am woefully under-educated on the subject. I was a fan of big band swing music for years before I even realized it was jazz.

As part of that effort, I have spent the last couple hours listening to this Charles Mingus collection, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really like jazz, blues, big band/swing. It's a surefire way to get the wife to leave me alone too 😆. She can't stand the improvisational aspect of the music.

Did you get into the Swing Revival at all? That's what got me started. I still listen to Royal Crown Revue, Brian Setzer Orchestra, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Squirrel Nut Zippers, etc all the time.
Like I said, I didn't even realize it was jazz, but when I clued in I wanted more.

That was my first! I think I grabbed it my last go-round with Columbia House.

They still top my list. Swing music and a punk attitude FTW.
Drunk Daddy, Flower Fight with Morrisey and Silver Tongued Devil are probably my favorite CPD tunes.
