Question about rules

I was pondering something to myself. in the site rules it says if you ask for your account to be deleted it may not be for thread continuation. What if a member gets into legal trouble due to this hobby of ours (because let's face it not all of us live in legal states). Those posts can be used as evidence. In a case like that would an account deletion still not be allowed?

Definitely a good question. I humbly submit though, that by the time you suspected that you needed to delete your account, it would already be too late.
I can agree with that. I just personally think if you want your account deleted you should have every right to do that. Just the fact that you can't may drive members away from joining in the first place. I'm not trying to stir up trouble or anything, I don't make the rules here but I'll do my best to follow them.

I hadn't thought about that. I was recently reminded, in private convo, that not everyone lives in a legal state. So I get what you're saying. Does any forum delete your content on request? I wonder 🤔

However, I personally hate the deleting of any posts, because it wreaks havoc with continuity. It also makes it hard to go back and review things. There are other reasons, but I'll hold on to those.

I've been thinking on this since I read your post. So I'll give my best answer and if I'm wrong hopefully other mods will chime in.

The rule is there for the continuity of the boards so threads don't become broken with missing messages or content. AFAIK all geolocation info is removed when posting pictures @spyralout or @Deebs Would know better.

But after all that, I'm sure if someone had extenuating circumstances. Something could be worked out. Maybe deleting all pics from said member or something. I dunno. Im just thinking out loud.

I can understand that and I'm sure the admins/moderators have their reasons.

I'm not positive on this but I'm about 90% sure ICmag will delete your account if it's requested.

Yet another reason to listen when I say "Hey guys, pack a U-Haul" :) LOL.

This was brought up already, but, I want to reiterate the importance:

If you were concerned about something from here being used against you, they would already have screen shot and logs, and even if the posts HERE were deleted, they would just get the data from your ISP. Data storage is so cheap it isn't worth deleting anymore. Whatever it is, it's mirrored somewhere.

It'd be taken on a case by case basis.
Good question, but I think it’s “swim at your own risk”?
As with all of the interwebs.
Definitely a good question. I humbly submit though, that by the time you suspected that you needed to delete your account, it would already be too late.
Likely yes, by that time they've raided you and confiscated your phone and computer.
Agree. Along these lines, something I have wondered about is if there is geolocational data embedded in pics that could be mined and used to do bad things to some guy with a few plants.
There's a scrubber that's part of the site that removes geo data etc. We can't even access that data.

I get it, but try reading a book where every other paragraph is deleted. It'd ruin so many great threads.

We have in some cases.

Exactly.
A newbie deleted no big deal, but assume a long term member were deleted, and how fd up It'd make so many threads.

Again, itd be a case by case basis to see what would work best, and prioritize member safety/site continuity.
Geolocation is removed from images. Though we do not typically delete accounts, We have on a couple cases for security reasons. Also there is a limited guest viewing limit on our boards if you are not a member.
Exactly. 👊👊👊

This is right above the part about terminating accounts, and is a good reminder:

We would also like to provide some very basic info to help keep your personal info, private messages, and posts safe.

-Dont give out any personal information -keep it personal.
-Dont post a picture of your face, house, license plate (or anything else that would easily identify you).
-Dont give out cues to your exact location.

Be smart and exercise caution.

It's easy to forget that our little oasis here is surrounded by bots and all sorts of automated evil that are always clawing at the gates.

If fearful , as a suggestion if in that mindset of privacy have your account not auto signed in/auto-remember your password for such websites . than run a tor/vpn and save your images not on your devices but an encrypted external or nowhere. You’ll see so many using cannabis freely and advertising from Facebook to instgram or YouTube, those are the websites I would be more fearful of being fished and those companies of website ownership most def will even report you and freely give you up no doubt. Read their terms and tell me those websites are pro cannabis And delete accounts because of so.

Many brands of vpn but make sure to review check em, why pay for bad vpn services when there’s good ones more so..
been using NordVPN, good service for price

that’s a extra step, this is same issue with people saving their text/pictures and evidence on devices . If cops get ur devices and u kept all that? Well they don’t need any contact or warrent with phone provider to figure that obviousness. this is why I try so many times to even promote using an encrypted chat messenger for cannabis related vs difect phone. That account like on wire app can be removed, have a pasword to see messages and also military grade encrypted.

Wish everyone would figure that out vs using discord. Discord isn’t safe that way and they save ur images even if deleted on the messenger thus if being investigated the government if needed could get it vs wire’s app method of privacy . people even forget low level growing/smoking/cannabis pics if they have reasons to use it against you they will , issue with most people is they don’t see it as a issue and it’s “legal” so np? Well by time if they do want something or figure out more to prosecute you if you don’t have any precautions your def gonnea go down

Yeah, anyone using gmail or instagram or any service offered by BIg Tech is already completely compromised, as far as I'm concerned. Your contacts, photos, and pretty much anything you've typed, even if you deleted it before posting, are all on a hard drive somewhere, as part of your file.

I always assumed that young folks would lead the privacy charge, but they all grew up in a connected world and most never even consider privacy or security until it is an issue. It's us old farts who grew up in the Cold War who seemed to be keeping healthy skepticism alive.
