Do you call out the National Guard for catastrophes like this, or do you just hunker down and wait and hope you survive?
?

Bro, true story:

Years ago my Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin used to go to Florida every year for Christmas, and one year they took another cousin along with them, and while they were driving through I think Georgia, they hit some mild snow fall.

The radio was on while they were driving and my cousin that went with them that year was listening and kinda laughing as he heard the Radio talking about all the businesses in the area that were CLOSED from the snow.... from what I recall, he snapped a picture of some flurries coming down, and that the freeway slowed to a crawl. Like, straight up snow flurries and the city was shutting down LOL.

Yup , I spent a few years in west linn , Oregon city area. I was surprised by no snowplows anywhere or no salting. Interesting to see how different regions combat elements.

When I was in Montreal, my ex's Dad lived in another area, and they didn't use salt, like at all.... Quebec just makes it a law that you have to have Snow Tires to drive in Winter, and uses Sand. They don't even scrape the roads with a plow so it's quite the adventure to be honest haha.

Wouldn't that be northeast? Or am I mixed up?
My parents both grew up out along Highway 13 past Camrose but I grew up in the trees. I get twitchy when I get out into the flatlands.

You should be out on Sylvan or Gull or Buffalo. Lots of ice fishing opportunities near you. ;)
Yup… not sure why I typed west!.lmao

I’m actually 10 mins from Buffalo lake.. Good fishing at the narrows!?
I don’t fish for ice though… Not much sport in that!…???

-33c It’s COLD now!… (-27.4f)
Have to go do a drop at the post office, then pick up some water..
That will take maybe an hour, and that’s because I know mostly everyone along the way In both little hamlets 15 mins apart from each other.

I think of how it must have been for our forefather‘s.. This little trip would take all day! Fuckin’ Brutal!… ????
You’d almost have to stop for cocoa at every other homestead along the way just to warm up!
But socializing was also a very important factor back then as well… A time when you had to have each other’s backs… no matter what!..
It’s awesome to see/ have that bond here at the hunt, and something I don’t take lightly Or for granted.

I appreciate you!???

People think we are a better society and things are more convenient but sometimes I think I'd prefer the quieter simpler life. What would be better than spending the day travelling, visiting neighbours and breaking bread and seeing the scenery nature etc and heading home for a home fire, check the veggies and property and throw the mattress on the back? Sounds pretty good doesn't it? Stay safe on those roads mate

I know when we sat around talking about life, I always envied the guys from back east.

Most of the people I worked with were from tiny fishing villages where everyone worked together to get by. They owned their own boats, or worked on their Dad's or Uncle's, so they weren't wage slaves. There was no big fancy entertainment, you just gathered in somebody's kitchen and whoever could play an instrument pulled it out and everyone sang. When somebody needed a hand, you gave one.

Of course the fishing life has changed forever, but the sense of community remains. All those guys are still in touch with the people from home. Even up in Ft Mac work camps you'll find tables sorted by NFLD or Cape Breton or Acadian village.

Out here in the "Industrial Heartland", the Albertans are hustling so they can afford a bigger pickup than their neighbor(who they've never met), and screwing their crewmates over so they get a bigger piece of the overtime.

Yeah, if this is progress, they can keep it.

That's what a community and village was all about. People along the way got deceived by the bright lights, fast cars, flash houses and greed for a "better" life. Little did people know that you had it better.

Hey now, a fast car is OK. Lol. I'll take 442 or a GTO over a mansion all day. I'm more Cabin deep in the woods type.
Unfortunately, You wouldn’t get the GTO up to the farm in the snow, let alone the rain! Believe me when I say our truck is as close to a sports car the farm will let live!…lol
The road in broke both our Jeeps on numerous occasions, to the point we said fuck it and got a “bumper to bumper“ package and made it FORD’s problem and not ours anymore..
That being the case for a lot of roads to any cabins, you might be better off with a truck!
Not that i don’t love a sweet muscle car, but the repair bills can swallow a man whole! ( Jeeps fit right in there too!)

I'm a Jeep fan personally; Out here there's roads where you could "say" it's a dirt road, but really it's a sand road that sometimes has dirt and pollen on it. 4 Wheel drive comes in very handy a lot. The GTO or 442 would be a summertime thing for me as they do NOT handle well from what I've heard so I wouldn't be trying that in Winter. But in Summer ? Mmmmm :) That sound of a proper V8 vibrating through my bones ohhhhh yeah :)

Started with Black Lime Special Reserve and now have lit up Chem D #2.

You know.... having come from "I managed to get two clones" to "well I lost that bag seed because I don't know wtf I'm doing" to "proper seeds that aren't from a hermie" it's quite a difference; I'm not really finding seeds... I mean it's not like I'd get many to begin with but this year is like even the Chem D isn't showing many. I think I've gotten 3 seeds out of a quarter pound I've ground up lol.
