New pack worked well first time out. :)

Lost a few hits early by jumping the gun, showed patience and had the first walleye of the season take a circle hook deep. Whatchagonnado??‍♂️
He swam away, so hopefully he'll be fine.

Had plenty of subtle hits and watched the suckers jump(must be their spawn or prespawn or ?) and eventually got a pike before coming home for lunch. Talked to a kid whose group got a couple sturgeon last night which got my attention.

Thinking I may grab some worms and head down to a different hole this evening(the bear tracks spot from last year) and try to get a dinosaur. Who wants to join me?

Is it OK to fish with a crossbow? ?

Sigh....tried to take buddy fishing yesterday... turns out you can't leave boat batteries sitting unplugged for months on end :D. Hoping they fire up today after sitting on charge again overnight, at least one of the banks lit up green.

I'm not a great fisherman, I can cast and follow instructions though and have an aluminum boat that goes places. My favorite part is just driving in circles and smoking a jay on the lake.
The worst day fishing is still better than the best day working .
Just being amongst it is pleasant enough . A feed of fish is a bonus

Got out on the river this morning - Beautiful morning, about 68* and sunny
The river was good to me today - Double digits for Hughie!
This is the first one - about 15-16" and a little tank. They were all just
about the same except for a couple dinks.
One dude stripped some drag and I got the biggest shit-eatin' grin.

I'll have my work cut out for me learning the new changes after all our flooding this year.
There are a bunch of new sand bars around, and I'm hoping they wash out soon but who knows?
There used to be a picnic table in the spot in the pic below.

Inspired by Hugh's ass-kicking day of catching fish and winning contests I went to the river this evening.

And I'm pretty damn happy that I did. Started getting hits right away and landed a good-sized goldeye on the 2nd or 3rd cast. A while later I set the hook on a good walleye for species 2. Changed up presentations and nailed a decent pike for species 3. :)

I brought another chunky goldeye in after an acrobatic fight and then it slowed a bit. I was getting the odd light hit but nothing I could put steel into.

Then the rod tip did a fast little flutter. I took it from the holder and waited, feeling the weight increase before sweeping the rod up. Fish on, feels like a good one. Oh shit, a real good one. Is it? Is it?

Oh hell yeah! First dinosaur of the season!
Not big for a sturgeon, it's under 40 inches, but I cherish every chance to interact with these amazing creatures. They are so strong, and so absolutely unique.

Man I scrolled down from Hugh to see all hands on deck are kicking ass . These fish amaze me in both their size and appearance . They seem a bit mystical as well with the hit miss type reputation . Do they fight well as in endurance and is the flesh palatable ?
They look as prehistoric as fish get .

They are beautiful! We have them here too, and everything about them is just interesting :) They have Barbels like a Catfish or some types of Carp do, they are one of the reasons you can tell people who use the term "Bottom Feeder" to kiss your ass, and they live a VERY long time.

You can in fact eat them, but outside of, well, HERE I'm not sure it's legal. I don't remember what they taste like as I was really young when my Grandpa nailed one from shore, but they fight like....Man... I've seen guys with Salt Water Reels filming literally 20 minutes from where I live looking like they were about to get spooled. The guy asked the guide "They do slow down eventually right?" because it kept peeling line. Amazing fish.

They have incredible strength and stamina and often jump clear of the water.

They are protected and have been for decades, so I'll likely never taste one. They don't spawn until they are 15-20 years old so are quite vulnerable and need protection.

The population is recovering and opportunities are increasing but catching a sturgeon is still quite rare. Finding them, and having the appropriate gear and skill, take some doing and some patience. I'm getting it figured out, slowly. :)

Hmmmm ? just had one of those random off the cuff thoughts . I wonder and I’m guessing yes the percentage of creatures that evolves millions of years ago in the Oceans vs those on land how many survived and carried through to todays version . Of course the Ocean being a significantly larger area would naturally hold more life to begin and most of our land creatures crawled from the Ocean onto the land . I probably just answered my own question now I elaborate or bullshitorate ? The sad bit is I’m not even stoned . 1 glass of red holds no answer either ??‍♂️
