Who's got dentures?

I'm looking at having all my teeth yanked in the near future and I've heard it's not a good idea to smoke or vape for awhile after having teeth freshly pulled. In fact, right now I'm making up my mind if I should even do it tonight (which explains why it's on my mind right now) because just a bit ago I pulled one of those teeth that came loose from eating earlier on. Yeah, my mouth is in rough shape so hopefully dentures will improve things.

So anyway, if you've had teeth pulled how long did you lay off? FWIW I generally don't smoke, I use an herb vape.

My brother has them and he's a smoker. I know for a fact he didn't quit afterwards. I had my wisdom teeth pulled as a young man, I smoked cigs at the time and one socket got dry rot or is it dry socket? Painful but it went away. I'd say go for it, gotta be better than messed up, hurting teeth. Once everything is healed you can smoke all you want and the tooth pain will be gone.

I'd wait 3-5 days. But if you can't make it that long take a piece of gauze or paper towel and wet it. Place it over the spot of the removed tooth. And bite down. Inhale slowly. Dental assistant gave me that advice after my wisdom teeth removal. Dry sockets hurt , throb and will probably lead to another Dental visit to get it flushed out.

I had mine all yanked in one sitting, you'll be fine man. I promise you that all that damn pain your feeling now is worse than the entire process. I put it off longer than I should've out of fear and now wished I'd of fine it sooner. I smoke cigarettes and bud, as long as you don't make a strong vacuum taking a drag your good. The damp gauze is a surefire way to avoid any dry sockets. Cuz I promise you, those things will test your patience....... godd luck bro!

Also I don't know if your insurance covers it but they put me under anesthesia, so I wasn't awake during the procedure. There was no pain but my jaw was swollen like a chipmunk for a few days. I was also out of it when I woke up from the anesthesia, tears were pouring out my eyes I'm not sure why but it wasn't from the pain and I was also freezing cold but again that's from the anesthesia. It was hell trying to eat anything for the first week or so.

I was supposed to not smoke for 3 days. I made it an hour. The Wife shot gunned smoke into my mouth, as my reading said that the reason it's bad, is the suction part. A vape doesn't make you hit it very hard though, so that may not be a huge problem. They said I couldn't even use a straw... I admit, smoking through my nose to avoid the mouth isn't a proud moment, but, I've got plenty of moments I'm not proud of, so, at the end of the day, you can decide what's right for you. I didn't listen though, I just read the reasons and tried to circumvent those, which, worked out fine.

The pain.... LOL, they might as well have said "Here's a hammer and some moonshine, knock yourself out so you can sleep" cause the first day was rough. I had more than one sitting. The first one, the insurance wouldn't pay for me to be sleeping, so I was wide awake as numbed.... I'll be honest here, I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone. The pressure feelings in the mouth, and the crunch noises as they yank out broken chunks of tooth.... The whole thing was like a fucking horror movie.

Ended up being knocked out for the other one. Poor bastard Dental Surgeon..... Had to knock ME out at a time I was coming off of hard drugs. I was still holding a conversation down when he finally said "Wait, how are you even conscious right now???" LOL. They gave me two more shots and finally I was out.

Get it done though.... I was in Canada without insurance one time, and the infected bumps in my mouth were so bad I used a serrated steak knife I cleaned with Alcohol and Peroxide, and slice the thing open on my gum.... I looked like an extra from a Zombie movie as the blood and puss went spraying ALL over my ex's bathroom mirror. Felt better after but MAN that wasn't fun... The huge bumps of nasty would pop up all the time, and generally there was nothing I could do about it but get really high and do surgery on myself. I didn't realize I could have probably gotten a scalpel, so I ended up using serrated knives, because you could slice sideways and open those things up. I don't recommend this at all.

got a funny look on the face of the Dental Surgeon though haha; he's like "Wait you did what ?!?!?" and I explained exactly what I did, all the way down to which knife, and my reason why, and how I cleaned it before I started, and he's like "Well...At least you did it right...." haha.

I gave my buddy a ride when he had all his teeth removed (there weren't many left).
He's got implants now and says they don't feel "right" but still better than what he had.
Not sure how much insurance paid but he said he coughed up a little over $15,000 out of pocket!

Holy fuck!

Years [and years] ago, after my first teenage dig/pull/hook/pick checkup visit, and before subsequent yearly visits, and before fillings and a couple of root canals - if I'd been told you can get a pearly white set of porcelain replacements that would eliminate ever seeing a dentist again - forever - for any reason except to sell him some buds - I'd have been all over it with glee and elation.

Those assholes mouth medics will let you spend a grand in a minute to save one tooth, when you can have all newbies for less. But they never tell you. Gotta keep the gravy train flowing.

You are correct sir!

My dentist tried to sell me a quadruple crown™ the last time I had a check up.
He said that my real teeth are moving but the implant is not, so the gap is going to get bigger over time -- and he can easily fix it with a new gold crown. (I break the white ones.)

Really?
Seriously???

This tooth (spot in my mouth) is on it's THIRD crown! How fucking greedy can they be???

Started with a root canal & crown(1). That crown cracked and had to be replaced(2). Then the tooth failed and was replaced with an implant and new crown(3).

Now they want me to pay another $1,500+ out of pocket to keep food from getting caught between my teeth?

Fuck that.

Toothpicks & dental floss are cheap...

Some times just brushing isn't enough. speaking for myself I have Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), the stomach acid eroded all my teeth and plus I'm a chain smoker which didn't help matters.

I hate my dentures, I have them out way more than I have them in. I wish I can afford implants, for a full set it can easily be $20k or more. Too bad I wasn't close to Mexico because implants are hell of a lot cheaper there than in the states.

Fuck, atleast I'm not the only one! No more tooth pain but damn, I usually don't wear them much when I'm around the house. They still feel foreign after 3 years having them..........

The funny thing is when I was in the hospital after my recent stay a nurse was asking me how I was gonna eat with out my dentures. I had to explain to her I have an easier time eating without the dentures in, if you cut things up small enough you can practically eat anything.
