Chief’s Den

Has anyone ran flex tubing from their forced air heat as the inlet air into their tent? Two fixes that I’m also considering are:
1) foam board insulation between my tent and the basement floor it sits on.
2) putting my exhaust fan on a digital timer that will allow for a 10 on 15 off cycle or something in that ballpark.

Perception and baseline apprehension are factors that rival space and actual safety concerns in my scenario.
It will be more effective to use your powers of persuasion than add another drop to your hvac system. Flexduct is ineffecient over long runs, forced air is not kind to plants, generally dry. Introducing it direct to tent is not ideal, better to heat room with it. The oil heater will be far more effecient at heating the tent as it can go inside. It is only necessary to bump you 10 degrees. Skip the exhaust timer and go for a thermostat.

Definitely get the foam board.

Find the angle, get perspective, have empathy accept compromise.

tent shot from last night. I have raised the light another two inches and turned down the throttle a touch more. It seems my chlorosis has been more pronounced on the tops so I figured that would be a reasonable step. Also put some epsom in my water last night. My plants always look Mg hungry. LED + H2O at 140ppm must be a touch light on Mg by my newb eyes.

Well my cloning experiment came to an end with no rooted cuts and a re-emergence of visible fungus gnats. I threw out some fresh stickies, dusted tops with DE, and did a light foliar misting with water with a bit of H2O.

Orange Julius is looking much healthier than I’ve seen her in some time.

The Double Dawg Biscuits are filling out some, as is the Sebrings Revenge.

Orion on the other hand has still been struggling. Interestingly though, a branch that I had taken a cut from is growing nicely but everywhere else she is looking pretty tough. 455F2642-D68A-46D7-80A5-D2ED71BDD484.jpeg
Not sure what to do to make her happy. I’m bottom watering tonight I tossed a tsp of barley and a tsp of half Dr Earth Bloom and half DTE Bio-live in with the bubbler and a gallon of water. My idea is to see if that changes her trajectory.

So strange how this can happen. W me it doesn't take much , an overwater here . Missed ph there . I always check run off first now . Hope she snaps the hell out of it ?

FWIW,
Forced air for the win. I have Fifty plants in a 8x4, at night I seal the door up tight and the humidity stays below 50%.
Still , 60 is okay, redline for me is a soil temp of 55. That is when I start seeing negative effects. I am looking at red green in-floor heating.

Hey,
How much lime to you add?

Also,
You mentioned 140 ppm, a page back,,, what was that number ?

You mentioned organic watering supplements, ( sorry if I missed it) are you adding commercial salts as well ?
I am curious about the strength of the average watering.
140 ppm ?
1400 ppm ?

For the bigger two I tried mixing my own soil. Bagged dirt from the Depot, peat moss, coco, and perlite plus amendments. I added lime based on my peat quantity can’t remember how much. Anyhow, I’ve moved on to 100% Roots Organic soil, plus dry amendments. I haven’t been using salts but I have them on hand and have considered maybe trying some for the Orion that I’ve been wrestling to see how she does with a bump of GH3. I’m at the point where I’m planning to finally flip in a few days so I’m trying to figure out the best plan to try to keep her happier. I’m chalking my first dirt making attempt up as a loss. I hope to take it as a lesson and am moving forward.

I'm not sure about measurements or everything you added, I'm also not an expert as I just recently switched to 'water only' organic gardening, but I'll leave the recipe I started out using as it seems to be working well so far. (I'm still learning it and plan to tweak it a bit as I go.)

1 cubic foot = 7.5 gallons

1 cubic foot base mix
2.5 gallons Sphagnum Peat - (I use Pindstrup Blonde. It's PH'd to 6 and has some nutrients.) - This could also be substituted with soil you already have on hand.
2.5 gallons Steer Manure
2.5 gallons Aeration. (I use a 50/50 mix for this of Pumice and Vermiculite)
1/4 cup Mykos Extreme (granule not powder)

I water with plain, ph'd water @ 6.2ph. Once every 7-10 days, I'll add 1 tbs of recharge per 5 gallons of water and water with that.

I don't need to add anything to the substrate for 3-4 weeks. When I do, this is what I do

I top dress with Dr. Earth at a rate of two tbs per gallon.

For veg, I decided on using their 4-4-4 - So vegging plants get this top dressed at two tbs. per gallon every 3-4 weeks.

If feeding comes at or near flip, they receive 1 tbs of 4-4-4 and 1 tbs of Dr. Earth Flower girl for transition (1 feeding)

3-4 weeks later when they need to be fed again, they receive 2 tbs. of Flower Girl per gallon. That will usually take most stains through finish.

Notes to add:
(Not necessary) I've also started foliar feeding about once per week. I'm using a mix of Kelp and Aloe Vera

What I haven't tried and plan to add in my next mix is Barley and Kelp. I plan to add 1 cup of kelp and 1/2 cup of freshly ground 2 row barley to the 1 cubic foot mix.

Again, I'm not an expert and I'm new to this as well. This is just what I've come up with after a lot of hours of researching and formulating my own opinions. It seems to be working well so far and I'm thoroughly happy with the switch. I hope something in this can help or anyone else who might have questions or wish to try it. I'm also always open for input.

Thanks for sharing, the littles just got 1tbs/gal of half Flower Girl with a mix of Bio-live, Azomite, and a little crushed malted barley for the other half.

The soil on the two larger girls has been compacting quite a bit. Last night I took a bamboo kabob stick and aerated the Orion pretty aggressively. Upon reflecting on @Phylex ’s soil post I have started to wonder if I am starving the Orion and to a lesser degree the OJ. 2Tbs/gal every 3-4 weeks? I think I’ve maybe been doing 1.5 tsp/gal every 2-3 weeks. This along with improved watering practices might offer an opportunity to make and keep my plants happier. I’m looking for input from some of our soil with dry amendment peeps so: @Frimpong @Bubby's n da lab @JL2G what do you guys think?

definitely look like they need some N

I would transplant into bigger pot w/fresh roots organic soil
add neem seed meal
it adds N & bugs hate it
it is a great ipm
