Bad Brains is awesome. You ever hear Death ? Protopunk from Detroit (isn't all of it? Lol) but good stuff!

Brothers from Detroit, and an accident settlement was how they got their instruments, recorded an entire album, and like 30 years later someone buys the house, finds the recording of them, and it gets released! Lol. Epic.

Yeah, kinda trick post, there is no discussion. The only thing I would change on the the PVC cut is bring Dr. Know's lead out front a bit more but other than that it's a 5/7 song. I pretty much stopped listening to them because I'm so triggered by the remaster.?

Very familiar with Death. Fantastic album and a shame they weren't able to capitalize off it earlier. Hard to say whether or not they would have changed the course of R-n-R much if they'd had more success but bands like them, MC5, Iggy, and outside of Detroit, the Ramones are more an impetus for spawning new genres rather than basking in the glory of fame and success.

Both Jello and Al from Ministry started their respective bands after the Ramones show in Denver in 77. Probably countless others did the same thing.?‍♂️

Parlez-vous turntableism?

I'm usually alone when it comes to this although a lot of people seemed to enjoy MM Mike at the 2018 NorCal Cannabis Cup.

Aside from searing guitars, I've probably liked nothing else more. Ever since it started pouring out of The Bronx into mainstream America at the end of the 70's I've been hooked. FWIW, I suck. I can do a couple of old school, easy scratches, but I spent all my money on mountain bikes instead.

This is when I began to appreciate what the Mixmaster can do with a turntable. I'm far from knowledgeable, but absolutely appreciate and enjoy the art form.

Same with the Bad Brains, I like what I've heard but I haven't heard a lot. I think I have a Live at CBGBs album of theirs somewhere.
I saw the singer talking about some of what they experienced as basically the only black group in the scene. Pretty crazy shit.

B-boys were my top Last.fm scrobble for like 7 years. Don't even get me started. Don't.

I've spent the past 6-7 years going down so many rabbit holes because of those guys.

Yeah I heard Jello talking about that when I think Joey died. There's another band.... I want to say the dictators, singer was handsome Dick Manitoba, they were out about 1974.

Jello and Al also both did Lard which is awesome too if you haven't heard it.

"The Philosopher, is Stoned"
Naive melody! David Byrne should be happy. Cover versions are my favorite snack, except for when dicks like Michael Bolton try to make it sound the same. That used to be another huge plus at any 'Dead' show, miss Ya Jerry.

I've always "seen" Naive Melody as a song of uncertainty and insecurity.

>Did I find you, or you find me?
>There was a time before we were born
>If someone asks, this where I'll be where I'll be
>Hi yo we drift in and out
>Hi yo sing into my mouth
>Out of all those kinds of people
>You got a face with a view
>I'm just an animal looking for a home
>Share the same space for a minute or two
>And you love me till my heart stops
>Love me till I'm dead
>Eyes that light up, eyes look through you
>Cover up the blank spots
>Hit me on the head ah ooh

It might come from David's happy spot but that shit makes me depressed af.
But it is a beautiful song nonetheless.

I like covers but only if the covering artist owns the song and doesn't pay some kind of patronizing homage.

Here's a few examples of what I mean:

I can find examples of covers I don't like but nothing comes to mind rn as I've mentally blocked most of them.

@Rozgreenburn This is one that has tons of covers, none of which should ever have been executed IMO. Nothing will ever come close to the original and even the homage waters the spirit down that much more. It's one's own prerogative as to what music they will play but some things, I feel, should be laissez-faire.

edit- grammar, do I speak it?

Amen Brotha,
You preaching to da choir! Pop music should never be regurgitated, hell, most of it shouldn't have been made at all. So, I will admit that besides being a pot snob, I'm also very critical of music.

I'm trying to find an example of what I consider a "bad" cover and I now I'm crushing hard.... this isn't working how its supposed to.
