Hey now.... we don't need to resort to Cannibalism :) though according to the ex cannibals of Papua New Guinea, human flesh tastes like pork, and was called "long pig" there lol. Kevin Bacon has puns built in with the right heat and wood.

Looking deluxe!

Back in the 70's, my mother went the opposite route and just wrapped a cheap dog in a corn tortilla and called it good....???

I'm now hopping into my time machine to go get jealous 40 years ago.

A friend was only telling me the other day when he was fishing off New Zealand the Māoris had a knickname for the whites that in translation meant Long Pig . In other words they saw us as a food source back when human flesh was on the menu . I worked with a couple Māoris over the years , really good blokes but they did talk of their ancestors liking for warring tribes conquered flesh . I think the Haka even implies a lot of that culture as expected . If you’ve ever seen the All Blacks Rugby side perform it before a game you’d know what I’m talking about

Took a trip down to the city tonight to see some friends and we ate at an Ethiopian restaurant... such a cool experience. The food was amazing and they serve it all together on this giant spongy bread thing, with more bread rolled up on the side to eat with... no forks in site. Had a ton of fun (and more than a couple beers) 20220721_192506.jpg

Oh boy am I down for that! Is that spicy?

Ethiopians grow the best coffee beans in the world, fwiw.

Yeah Ethiopia is one of those places I'd LOVE to see one day! Willie already mentioned the Coffee which, I must say is WONDERFUL!

That bread dish I'm pretty sure I've seen that before and wanted to try it, and one of these days..... :)

I actually had a sauce years back that was made from a Spicy Pepper I knew nothing about (African Bird's Eye I think?) It was interesting! It didn't BURN my Tongue so much as felt like a razor blade was slicing it which was intriguing to say the least !

I love birds eye chiles! Used to be my go to dried chile for real heat but I've been digging the Tien Tsin from China and Sanaam from India. I wonder if the sauce you had was Berbere...it's a hot spice mix from Africa with a ton of chiles in it and can be screaming hot, but also delicious.

Yeah, everything we got was spicy. Heavy on the fresh jalapeño on top of the dried chiles in all the sauces. Lots of garlic and spices too!

And I agree, I love Ethiopian coffee.

I found I think a magazine or something I was flipping through while waiting in a waiting room a while back, and I was surprised to see there's actually an Ethiopian place around Detroit that I'd like to try. I'm a fan of the spicy :) And if they have the Coffee.... Shit I'm not sure I'd wanna leave haha.

EDIT:

Just saw your reply:

Yeah bro that sauce was incredible !!! Like I said it wasn't the usual burn you'd get from a normal spicy pepper, but like a straight up slice on the tongue which, to this day I haven't tasted since :)

Yeah, there's an Ethiopian place down on 9 mile in Ferndale. Never eaten there, but I'd definitely like to check it out sometime, especially looking at those pics, and being damn hungry right now.

I found this new flat bread recipe.
- 4 cups flour.
- 1.5 tsp baking soda.
- 1 tsp salt.
- 1 tsp sugar. I like brown sugar.
- 1.75 - 2 cups water.
Bake at 425 for 10 - 15 minutes depending how you like it. I like to add fresh minced garlic, a little crushed hot pepper and oregano to the dough before cooking sometimes. A little olive oil drizzled over the top...makes a delicious snack.

Anyways I thought it would make a good pizza dough.

Made a roux with garlic for the sauce.
Fresh mozzarella and feta cheese, basil, oregano, arugula, spinach, tomato, black olives and onion for the toppings. With some leftover grilled yard bird I raised for the meat. Before cooking...

After cooking...

The bird...she was a happy cornish chicken raised on vegetables, grain and love.

The skin charred quicker than anticipated from the brown sugar in the marinade. But the flavor was all the way to the bones...which will make a broth for some PHO next week.

Cheers! Be well and eat good.
