My wife trains a man that owns several Mc Donalds in souther AZ.
He told me that the fountain drinks are his highest margin item....
Don't doubt it.
Side note - High fructose corn syrup and caffine are my most followed food restriction actually. I can't really drink mainstream soda or other fountain drinks anymore, definitely not regularly. I have a crazy sweet tooth too.
I'm thinking those soda fountains might possibly be an element of pathogen transmission.
How many refills (including employees) touching those nozzles...?
Just a theory, but additional motivation to avoid.

When I was a youngster I worked at a family owned Italian joint. The owner told me the cups cost more than the soda/ whatever is in it( beer etc...) ...hhmmm...also, I reduced some coke for a recipe...damn that shit is disgusting! I can't believe people drink it.
I don't think they use the BiB(Bottle Ina Bag) either think it's in some sort of tank.

But it does make sense that stagnant sugar might feed all kinds of crud... just gross!
Same reason I only get beer on tap at places I know cleans their lines on the regular... new spot, bottled beer please

Fast food places I've worked all used the big bags of drink mix. I don't honestly remember if they clean them or not.

I worked at a pizza parlor and we were supposed to soak the dispenser nozzles in a bleach solution every night. Lazy workers wouldn’t do it. But I always wondered if it was done and they weren’t washed off properly by the day ppl, what the first few ppl who bought sodas thought of the taste lol

Homemade sausage! Sooo good....about to make some home made bacon . I'll post pics when I do...just nothing better than home made! And if you haven't made bacon I encourage you to do it...it's soooo much better than store bought ( currently million dollar bacon in stores)
