So this is just to update photos of the current plants I have.
This is the one plant that I have in flower, it's a Durban Poison. You can see that the fan leaves are really sad looking, due to the PH pen calibration Ef-up I had.
The sugar leaves look heathy enough, and I'm surprised that the buds look as good as they do. This is day 31 since flip to 12/12.

This is the '1968' stain that I damn near killed. It has made an amazing come back.

I did not get to transplant the three new plants as I had hoped, life happens.
I did get the reservoir changed on the DP, and some edibles made.

It's caramel time...

Could mention, those look like dead mites.

"Dunk" or saturate in a shallow pan.

Diligence in re-application may trump the quality of any product,,,,
That is to say,,,,,,
with mites the best way to beat them is assume they will always be present.
Keep treating them on a regular basis, as if you knew those little turds are still in there somewhere ,,,,because most likely
~they are.

Only speaking from awful experience,,,,. I have 95% emptied a room and
95% cleaned it
only to find, a month later ,,a real live mite.

Honestly, I really want you to enjoy continued harvests.

Only trying to convey the potential seriousness of the situation.
Imagine yourself harvesting your entire Garden into black garbage bags, and getting them to the curb as soon as possible.

We get brainwashed, looking at all these beautiful harvests. Lotsa gardens go down this way. We just never hear about it.
I am one, and there are others, who would never let another GROWER in their garden. For this reason.

So it's been a week since I updated.
The DP is starting to fill out, I'm excited about that.
Day 38 since flip to 12/12.
IMG_7246.JPG IMG_7243.JPG

And remember this poor sad little creature...??
IMG_7170.JPG IMG_7171.JPG

Well I'm pretty amazed by how well she has recovered.
IMG_7247.JPG IMG_7248.JPG
She has really nice structure. (y)
I really don't have any idea what to expect from her, however I don't think that the original 'old hippie' would have kept her around this long if she wasn't something special.
Fingers crossed.

No sign of critters in the veg tent BTW. I am still treating those plants though.

Cheers,
WillieP

So I finally got my crap together enough to try and transplant one of the soil plants to a hempy bucket.
Yes the plant was way to big to be doing this...
And, Yes I had no idea what the hell I was doing...
And, Yes it took two tries because the drain port got clogged.
BUT
In the end I did succeed.
(I think)
(Maybe)
(I hope)
(We'll see)

IMG_7267.JPG

If this one takes to it well, I will do the other two also.
I had never worked with Perlite or Vermiculite, so there is a bit of a learning curve.
The next two will be a lot simpler now that I at least have a clue.
Cheers,
WillieP

So the Hempy bucket system seems to have a learning curve to it.
I rushed in blind and I know I've make some Noobie mistakes.
I shouldn't have transplanted that large of a soil bound plant, for starters, but I knew that risk going in.
I should have established the hempy bucket prior to putting a plant in it.
I was measuring the PH of the nutrient going in the bucket, but was not measuring it coming out.
Checked that today, and found it to be 7.4. Oops.
I will hopefully get it stabilized it the next couple of days.
The plant has not bin digging it.
Pretty sure I have decided to up pot the other two soil plants and finish them out as is.
I will be doing a hempy grow from scratch after that though.

On a happier note, the DP plant is looking good, starting to bulk up. On day 44 from flip.

I will be trying my first QWET this week, both decarbed bud and Everclear are in the freezer.
Planning on a 3 min wash, followed by a 5 min wash. Will combine the two washes and allow most of the ethanol to evaporate, then replacing that volume with glycerin.
I want to dispense this with an eyedropper under the tongue.
Anyone with pointers on the topic are more than welcome to chime in. Open to input.

Cheers,
WillieP

So as mentioned in my last post, I am having difficulty with the PH in my Hempy bucket. @.Smoke @Buck5050
I have never worked with Perlite or Vermiculite, so I am fairly confident that this is all related to my complete and utter Noobness.
As the plant began to fail, I realized that I was not monitoring the PH of the runoff. When I did measure it the reading was notably high, 7.4.
At that point I flushed...and flushed and flushed until I could get it down to 6.3.
Flash forward 24 hours and the runoff is back to 7.1.
So this evening I once again flushed. I used approximately 2 gallons of 5.8 PH nutrient solution to flush the runoff down to a 6.4 level.
Note: 3.5 gallon bucket. Filled bottom layer with hydroton, then topped with 70/30 perlite/vermiculite. 1 quart of water will cause significant runoff.
There has to be something that I did wrong. Did I need to do something to stabilize the PH of the bucket before transplanting?
(I just rinsed the perlite with tap water through a strainer before use)
I understand that this is spilt milk, but I would like to know for next time.
And what the hell should I do with the bucket I currently have a plant in? Just keep flushing till I can keep it (get it) down low enough.
So anyone that has experience with, or knowledge of, or just an opinion of WTH, is welcome to share.
I'm all ears,
WillieP

PS.
Found live mites tonight. Treated with Lost Coast Plant Therapy. ?

As far as the mites go, stay proactive about spraying for a week and you're good to cut some.

I am curious how much soil was left with the rootball. I haven't measured run off in a long time but I don't expect it be much higher or lower than what goes in. If your pH is over 6 consistently it's going to be hard to keep it healthy. In hempy I can Flush heavily with plain RO water at 5.8 and that clears out any residual salts that were left in the medium. The organic matter in the soil can be holding onto these nutrients and causing some awkward issues. Really saturating it could help move some of this out. Soil is a different beast when it comes to watering and I fear we might be swerving into some lane in between the two.

I've had some spikes before.
All you can do is flush.
Good routine to start is flush when flipped and once again 1/2 way through flower.

With 3.5gal buckets, it's going to take a lot (12-15 gallons) per bucket to get a proper cleanout and PH back down.
Makes for a real pita when running 10 gallon buckets....I just flushed my flower tent last week. Took better of 10 hours to get it done.

I have no experience in Hempy, but I do with vermiculite and hydroton alone and I do know that after a quick rinse of both, they basically hold no water or pH values since runoff is so quick so pH spikes could likely be the culprit of something to do with the root base. Pathogens/bacterias can make pH climb quickly (not saying thats what you are dealing with, but just making mention) in soiless mediums. Food for thought.

@Buck5050 @.Smoke @HydroRed
Thank you all for your input, very much appreciated.
I will flush the Jesus out of it tonight with PH'd water. I had no idea of the volume required I guess.
Buck, to answer you question about the soil, the plant was in a 6 inch square pot. I would estimate that I was able to rinse away between 80-90% of the soil. I took as much away as I was comfortable with and not risk damaging the roots anymore than necessary.
It was very cool to be gifted these plants, but in hindsight, they have caused issues. I was not prepared for plants potted in soil, as I have always grown in hydro. I also was not ready for the infestation that came with them. I will continue to fight the good fight, but looking back it may have been better to start my own seeds and had a clean start.
In my future Hempy grow, I will establish the bucket before putting a plant in it and allow it to stabilize, just to be sure. I also like the idea of starting with smaller containers and up sizing as needed.
Thanks again.
Cheers,
WillieP

This is the biggest reason so many growers do not accept cuts from others, let alone full on plants, and even if they do accept cuts, they quarantine em. Some pests (like Russet mites), once they take hold, are in the grow area for good. It sucks, but it's just the way it is. I hope you get the infestations knocked out.

So just to follow up on the Hempy PH issue.
I checked runoff when I got home, 5.7 PH In, 7.2 PH Out. ?
So We Flush!
Ran 4 gallons of tap water PH'd to 5.3 though the medium in the hempy bucket, on quart at a time, measuring runoff every time.
Slowly the PH came down. Stopped when I reached 5.6 PH. Allowed it to rest for an hour and then checked again to find the same readings.
We will see what tomorrow brings.

On a happier note, the DP is starting to look pretty...

Hey All,
So I have been snooping around these parts for about a month, and I will say ya'll are a welcoming bunch. And I mean that as a compliment!
@Gentlemancorpse was kind enough to invite me over to this site, so shout out to him. Thank you Sir.

I have not been growing long, just started when my state went legal in Jan of 2020. (I did do research for six months prior to that though)
I only have 2 complete grows under my belt, but I can say that I have learned a lot in the last ten months and I have been pleased with the outcomes so far.
I only grow for personal use and to have the chance to gift to friends. My preferred method of use is edibles. (BTW, I hadn't use cannabis in over 30 years before starting to grow my own.)

We have a maximum plant count of 5 plants, so I will never have the gardens that some of you do.
I grow in hydroponics, thus far in a modified E&F system. @.Smoke and @Buck5050 are tutoring me as I will soon attempt some Hempy buckets as well.
I have used a SCROG screen in all of these grows so far, but I am considering letting some plants grow out more naturally with just LST'ing.
I enjoy the DIY side of things and have made my own LED lights so far.

Why does this feel like I'm filling out a dating app or some crap?? :ROFLMAO:

I'll post up some pics from my first two grows, cause that's how you prove life happens, right?

I will try and catch up on my current stuff in my next post.

Everyone is welcome to comment in here. If you see something WillieP is doing wrong or that I can improve on, feel free to chime in.
