I didn't see this thread, and was gone a few days from here, but, I'll get caught up now LOL.
Strains I steer clear of:
Anything that smells or tastes like fucking candy, and most strains that are fruity. If I wanted to have something taste sweet, I'd eat cake. If I wanted something to taste fruity, I'd drink juice.

lol jk! No but really. . . Cheese, that's probably the main one I avoid simply because it's unpleasant for me. I'm no snob, I won't refuse it if passed to me & I do acknoweldge that Cheese strains in general, they do rip & pack quite a punch effect-wise.
So you don't like how they smell but you like how they feel? There's a wash your snatch joke in here somewhere LOL.
Ice Cream/Cake strains in general are lookers but not likers; for me, they just seem not to pack much flavor but they do add craaaaaazy amounts of frost to the party. Like, CRAZY frost. Oh and often times gives that "chinese food" high that Cookies usually gives, you're hungry for more within 20 minutes

I will admit that Ice Cream Cake #5 was decent. The 20 minutes and you're not stoned anymore thing though is like... Yeah, we're at the Gum with a Zebra for a logo LOL.
I don't like anything minty. I wouldn't smoke menthol cigs and I don't want menthol weed. I have 1-1/2 packs of a minty strain in the Vault and it will stay there until I find someone that wants it.
I don't like anything that smells or tastes too much like chemicals, like unnatural heavy perfumes.
If it has too much of a musty smell, my mind tells me it's moldy even if it isn't, and subsequently I can't enjoy it.
I've got some Chocolate Cheese from Jim Dandy that literally smells like an Andes bar; Minty Chocolate.

LOL it's OK. I also like Ghost Pepper Sauce, but I in no way would expect literally everyone else to like it.
Cool and interesting thread man. I kind of go in waves. I definitely lean more towards the fruity and floral strains but have grown tired of them as of late. Im trying to run some straight up nasty, gassy, skunky and funky stuff this year so I've decided to cross all of my keepers with strains that might stir that profile up a bit. I've got some cheese, hazes and gassers lined up for this year. Should be an interesting year of projects! I can say that the gassier they are, the more "stoned" I get in my experience. Curious to see what others have to say.

I'm with you, my tastes do waver and I'll prefer a thing for a while (fruity/candy) then flip the script & pine for the other thing (funk/foul/GMO/meat). I know i talked mad shit on Cheese but I'll sometimes even window-shop that just to see what's out there
How do you like funk and foul but not Cheese ? I've got a GMO that came out with weird rotted hamburger and onions and garlic that's pretty awesome, and it's starting to get some weird floral notes even.
Oh I've had some FONKY cheeses, even from dispos. Admittedly though I'm not 100% sure if I've had real Exodus even though I know I've purchased it under that name, and legitimacy aside it was still foul 🤣 oh and i haven't fuct w Cheetoz yet
Dispensary people aren't to be trusted; Back when I used to go into those places, I saw one day they have Chemdog listed on the menu, but only had Chemdog '91 on the shelves, and when I asked them about it, the girl started looking, and they were literally all the same. I'm like damn it... I wanted the first one but '91 was all they had. They had UK Cheese prerolls in there for 20 dollars....All shake... *sigh*

For me it's the perfume ones I will pass on, and the meat ones. Rotting meat smells just don't do it for me, and the perfume cologne heavy ones gag me. Lol
Had a really strong rotted meat one yrs back, had me dry heaving from its funk.
I don't do that easy, pretty strong stomach here, but that thing was foul. Lol.
Like I took some hamburger, mixed it up with some oranges, and left it to sit in the sun a couple of weeks. 🤮🤮🤮

I can muster through some funky strains, but I just cant do any minty weed. I grew out Female Seeds "Bubblegummer" some years back and it was ALL mint smell and flavor.

It's pretty much all good to me as long as I like the stone, my sense of smell is not terribly sharp and never has been. I'd probably steer clear of anything that other growers are saying smells like death, shit, vomit, poorly kept snootch, incense or alfalfa. At the same time I do
genuinely like rank ass Cheese or Skunk, so I guess that could mean that shit and poorly kept snootch actually have some chance at being ok within limits
Maybe that's where beer helps out.
