The Misadventures of Captain Sternn in the Cannaverse

My wife does care for an gal that uses this old timey soap called Fels-Naptha for pest control, I'm guessing mainly as a repellent as opposed to killer. She has a lot of good looking ornamentals I'm told and has also used it in the veggie patch, for a looong time.

So we got some at Wally, it def has a naptha smell to it. It's a waxy block and you shave off what you want, melt it down in hot water and spray that. I figured it would cool off and leave a layer of crap on top that you'd have to leave out but it doesn't. In the spray bottle it separates a little and has to be shaken before using. So the wife just did start using it on ornamentals and I suppose I'm alright with the veg's if needed.

I'm always interested in effective pest control and this stuff doesn't cost a lot, goes a long way. I need to take some bottom branches off the old Hindu Kush anyway, I think I'll get those rooted somewhere to experiment on bud with this stuff and whatever else might come along.

Anybody here use or even heard of this stuff ? Having naptha in the name kinda put me off at first but if it works well I can get by that.

This morning I got the smaller grape cheese in the ground in a raised bed. It's growing faster now, I can see the difference in both pretty much daily. I usually water in a ring around a plant this size to encourage the roots to spread, but since this was an install I put the water right on the mass I took from the container.

Next is my sorely lacking bud shots of the Forbidden Skittles Raspberry Boogie. It's not going back to veg, started forming trichs the last couple of days. The proper unit of measurement to describe it's yield will be xx number of one hitters lol. Maybe 5g dry, maaaybe.

This Ass Stomper belonging to my friend came from the same source of starts, it is fully flowering. But who knows I guess it's possible as far along as it is that it could be a fast version ?

Our Empress Wu is blooming a bit early, she's already bigger than last year and still growing

To the right of the well house in the background is a bobcat. It's the first live one I've seen, others were all dead on the roadside. LOL I went out and stood on the top step and lit up, it was rolling in the dust of the road just like our pet cats do. It either didn't know I was there or didn't care, went on it's way. Problt have to zoom on the pic to see the cat I was in a hurry to get the shot

Well I've been eating this elephant one bite at a time for a little while and fair to say there's less elephant than when I started. Of the 5 problematic starts, 3 are back into veg and looking generally healthy and their leaves no longer showing much sign of deficiencies. The FSRB remained fully in flower and has cloudy trichs so it's chop day is coming, at which time I will be wallowing in roughly 5g of dried cured FSRB. The Northern Lights is near to being revegged it's kinda borderline but not yet facing chop.

Time now to get to work on bugs. I applied BT a few days ago after seeing a caterpillar. Haven't seen more of those but seeing other bugs, among them lightning bugs which is ok, I may be getting some help out of them, could be why I'm seeing other bugs but not seeing the damage they normally do. I tested the Fels Naptha solution which apparently did no harm, so this evening I'm going to add some neem to that and baste the living piss out of all the established plants. The smaller ones can do without right now, I don't want to mess up and do harm. Also going to apply fungicide on the tomatos, and all the canna will get some of that too in a couple of days.

The cheese auto's and the backup Durban are all coming right along. I'll post new pics probably tomorrow. ✌️

Apologies for seeing this so late.

Boy that is some welcome news ! It's even better than I hoped, the stuff kills, aaand I got to learn that what we have in the bottle now is about 400 times too strong. I sprayed bottom branches last night with it, and they looked ok today but still I'll cut it, it seems perfect to combine neem with too, just a kiss of it.

Current pics - I'll have to cut my solution and the amount of neem I put in it still more, crinkled my leaves a wee bit in places.

No noteworthy growth in the Northern Lights or FSRB, everything else has come a long way and growing well. Just gonna say again, the effectiveness of that Fels Naptha solution really impressed me at the time I applied it. If you've ever had a bad bug problem you didn't know what to do about it, and found yourself sitting in the house saying "I wish like hell I had something I could just go out there and lay waste to those sob's", get some of this and go to it son. You'll go back to the house feeling like Chuck Norris.

This evening I chased the bug solution of a couple days ago with Southern Ag Garden Friendly Fungicide. I haven't seen the least sign of any pm or anything like that but I think when you've had some bugs running around mildews, funguses etc. can get started so trying to get ahead of that. I hit the tomatos and some other stuff as well. A f'n mole came up right by the bigger auto cheese apparently did no harm, all I had to do was tamp things back down. I noticed the stalk of that plant has gotten a lot bigger just in the last day or so and it looks like it's pre flowering.

The backup durban is looking strong. The season is long and those sativas grow fast as hell once they get a solid root mass.
You weren't kidding I'm pretty happy with this, I need it to show me some girl parts now but there's not a thing wrong with it's progress.
IMG_1272.jpg
@Psychobilly this bigger cheese is getting along good too. The smell has become more suttle, not as strong as it was a few days ago and less like rank cheese more like mustiness

Oh she will likely change scent profile more than once :) I haven't ever had a Cheese not change the smell multiple times before circling around to something like a blend of all of it haha. It's interesting as it grows how much the scent changes though, and part of the mystery of "How is this going to smell once it's cured?" :) The must smell might indicate an ammonia later if it's prominent

Happy to report our base of operations has made it through another derecho. The girls are all good, other than looking like a bunch of wet windblown hookers that have been out all night and had quite bit to drink. This bunch has mostly had nothing but hard times lol. I took the combat medicine kit with me when I went out but no injuries.

Wind peaked around 70+ possibly gusted to 80. I have no explanation for why everything is still where I put it. Just a taste of marble size hail.

Good times, man. I'm pretty happy with the way things are going. Everything but the FSRB is poppin' new growth, a lot of fun to watch.

Grape Cheese auto - last rub smelled faintly kerosene

Durban from seed really blowing up - anyone who sees conclusively this plant is female in the 2 closer pics that follow, please speak up. I know balls when I see them (I'm not) I think it's a girl but I may be jumping the gun ? Haven't had to sex many plants and I'd like to be able to relax about it, daddy needs a girl lol

Smaller Grape Cheese- a different pheno I guess it's structure is different than the other. Classic rank cheese aroma but it's faint.

The grow area started smelling dank a couple days ago. Due to the rains we've had they're a bit overdue for ferts so that can be tomorrow after those roots have had a bit of dry time.

My next update will be about Tuesday maybe Monday but I'm pretty pleased, enough of the grow is doing well I'm less worried about where I'll be left at harvest time. Rains are coming through well timed and well proportioned for the most part. Later today when I see the next round is near, I'm going to give them a blast of the Fels bug juice and let the rain rinse them down.

So lately I've been thinking ahead a bit to next years grow and what I would like to be in it. I'm certain whatever I do I want to include some of the offerings put forward by creators here on the board, there is all kinds of good and interesting things going on in these parts. Today I wanted to ask if @Senokai or anyone else who has bought from The Landrace Team could tell me if their purchase and grow of TLT was a good experience. Mainly I'd like to know if they ship from inside the US. I'd like to start including something landrace each year but I don't feel great about taking a delivery from outside USA. So if anyone can make a suggestion re landrace beans that would ship from inside US, I'll give it a look, there's going to be time for bud porn today it seems.

TLT show up at a few US banks under the brand Trident Seeds. Have seen them at Multiverse as well as Oregon Elite and Mt. Zion. Not sure where else.

Also, RedScare has a few Indian Landrace Exchange listings that might be of interest. The ILE also show up at The Seed Source, as well as Labyrinth.

There's probably a lot more - hopefully you'll get some more responses. One last one - ITW has some of the BaabaQ offerings.

Thank you. I saw strains from Khalifa that looked pretty good. Man it gets overwhelming quick especially since it's sort of like being a kid in a candy store to begin with lol
