Yeah I get your point , maybe just not when your 48 with a wife and young children . I already had full respect for the elements , this enhanced that respect a whole lot more .

I have only been on the vine 1 time and that was for something different..it was a web site deal for something stupid..
This place is off limits to everyone but the boy scouts..
We got to fish it for 2 hrs before the kids showed up....

Went for a stroll along the river yesterday. Took my gear but ended up not using it, just had a really good hike and came home properly filthy. 
Had to watch for the big chunks of ice along the edge, as they could calve at any time, and some of them were massive.

It was a workout. My left ankle and right hip have been complaining ever since. I only did one partial wipeout in the mud, but lots of slipping, sliding, and slogging and climbing. It was so wonderful to get off the pavement and play in the dirt.

Like G.Gordon Liddy used to say...if I do 500 lapse around the prison yard to my left, I have to do 500 laps to my right to wear on my joints etc equally.It was a workout. Have to admit I’m super envious . My boat is currently out of action so I can’t reach those deeper waters at the moment where the bigger fish play . Love those big chunky fillets that you can oven bake with a nice filling of onions , tomatoes , basil , bacon , cheese etc . I affectively turn two nice fillets into a burger full of stuffing . Jeez now I’m hungry . Luckily my work crew bought some fresh Squid in for lunch ? ?

Hell yeah!
I can't wait for the bigger fish to get up to me, all we have right now are the little guys. I'm kind of with ya though, I'm not a huge fan of striper fishing these days. Unfortunately we don't have the variety of game species up here that you guys see further south. Even the bluefish don't make it up to me anymore, I have to go down to the islands for them. We have tuna around but my boats too small and the gear isn't in the budget anyways.
When I was fishing in the keys the sheer number of species you could target blew my mind. Someday I'm gonna move south just for the fishing.
