I want nothing to do with either of your woods . You got like Grizzly bears and mountain lions and shit .
I’ll take my chances with snakes and spiders and bugs
Bears and sometimes moose are the only thing that really scare me in our woods, and the chance of an encounter are fairly low and of a bad encounter, really low. I posted about my conversation with a pair of moose from maybe 30m away less than a month ago. I've only had a handful of those experiences in over half a century playing outside. Same with black bears, rarely seen and they have always gone the other direction. I've only seen one griz, but it was traumatic as I watched from a small boat as it chased down and instantly killed a yearling moose. Luckily, where I live now is outside their habitat, and I don't often go into grizzly country.

I'm big enough that cougars won't bother with me, coyotes are nothing, wolves aren't a threat. Just like when I was in the city, my main concern is other so-called humans..

I own firearms but rarely take one into the bush.

I actually ate bear for the very first time last year; Soon to be Father in Law got one up North. It was good. Personally I have no real reason to go off searching for a bear to kill, but if I was hungry it'd be like "sorry about your luck teddy" lol. Specially if they were around here; what I don't eat, a Catfish will. They're greasy and very easy to find with Barbels.

I guess it’s all about being educated and local knowledge.
To be totally honest sharks scare the shit out of me the most where I live .
I hear the same old more chance of being hit by a car , more chance of being in a plane crash blah blah blah whatever ………
When you live in a town where we’ve lost surfers , abalone divers , recreational divers , scallop divers and you personally know most of them it leaves a stain on your comfort zone .
When I was a kid I used to spearfish quite a lot in our bays and areas .
Not anymore .
My brothers good mate had his sister literally chopped in half north of our town years back while snorkelling . I remember this one more than most as the event was a horror story.

I’ve never heard of anyone eating Bear before . I never considered you would or could ??‍♂️. I guess you can eat anything that doesn’t kill you

Yeah Sharks are a pretty deep down emotional animal which is why Jaws was so effective as a movie. Personally I've not tasted a fish that I didn't like, so as long as I'm not IN the water, my extra heavy gear can get a work out.

There's a few things I won't go around, which may shock everyone who's heard me joke about dying from trying to pet big cats, Catfish, and Wolves:

I wouldn't get in any water with Crocodiles around. Or giant Sharks..... I also wouldn't get in the water with a Wels Catfish over 8 feet either, nor would I with a similar sized Piraiba Catfish or Goonch Catfish. I just feel like my chances are better with Piranhas, which I have stuck my hand in water with them in before (Had some as pets back in the day) but Sharks Catfish and Crocs depending on size, are a no go for me LOL.

Now stick 400 seeds of every Cheese strain in a massive tank with a Bull Shark in it and PETA would be PISSED at what happened next LOL. I'd be eating Angus Fish sandwiches.

It was good! There was....."Bearly any left" :) The only thing I'm very unlikely to eat are insects. I like Shrimp and all, but prefer fish myself. Also since fish LOVE Shrimp I don't have to eat them because I can put them on a hook and catch something I like more.

But yeah Bears are like big Catfish; If you're both hungry that day only one of you still is after the encounter haha.

I've eaten black bear, it was very tasty. My understanding is that the bear's diet will have a huge effect. A bear fat on berries will be lovely while a scrawny one that's been eating rotting carcasses will be far less pleasant.

That terrifies me. In water we are so out of our element and so relatively helpless compared to critters that evolved there.

Yeah the rotting carcass eater.... I don't think I could ..... Bear to eat that :) LOL sorry.

Oh, you guys may enjoy this:

^ That image on the shot before you hit play makes it look like they caught a Goliath Tiger Fish ice fishing..... It was a Pike without the teeth that size though LOL.

^^I'll skip it then, if they used a fake thumbnail. I prefer not to reward that clickbaity shit.

Big pike through the ice is a blast though. I've got a vid somewhere that I took while my bud fought and iced a 20 pounder while using light gear for whitefish. It was a combination of skill and luck, as it hooked up in the dead center of its upper jaw, so when it rolled the line didn't come in contact with any sharp bits.

Absolutely spot on . I’ve watched a 15 foot Great white turn in its own body length . If they can catch a seal we stand absolutely no chance and even if they only bite and release , the trauma left behind means you’ll usually bleed out .

Crocs are simply not to be messed with .
These Croc hunters be it Steve Irwin RIP or whoever to me have big balls .
The manner in which they dismember prey is terrifying as well .
The drowning the prey is the easy bit . The cork screwing limbs off as they roll is just sheer brutal . You’d wanna be goodnight Irene before that bit happens

Yeah the Catfish part I mentioned; They spin / death roll too, though some Catfish probably wouldn't need too as a Head Shake would probably accomplish the same thing:

Goonch.jpg

Surprisingly that isn't even a record of any sort..... Locals say they can get over 10 feet long, and over 7 feet have been photographed. apparently an oil drum fit in it's mouth.

They also don't really like warm water (Some people keep those as Pets.... The water shouldn't get above 70 degrees as they don't like that) and there actually IS no maximum size on those as Fish have Indeterminate Growth which means they grow as long as they live, and I don't think there's even data on how long they live since they were rare to outsiders before River Monsters.

Now, I've seen someone lay out the dimensions of what a 10 foot Goonch would be like, and a grown man wouldn't stand a chance. the one Jeremy Wade caught was under 200 pounds.

Imagine that thing 10+ feet long, capable of eating a live Bull shark in a single bite..... I wouldn't swim with that LOL. Wallago either which India and Thailand also have. These Catfish are on that VERY small list of fish that are not only capable, but will eat humans whole.

Now, I have a baby Amazonian Red Tail, and they CAN get almost 6 feet though not likely in captivity, but in South America they eat kids meals from time to time. Piraiba from the same River are fully capable of eating a grown man though.

Wels Catfish are the other man eater; The current World Record isn't even big if you look at old German records where they were 16 feet long, and not rare to find people in their stomachs.

piraiba-catfish-swallows-man2.jpg wels catfish ostiglia po river italy 200 300 250 big fishes huge world record caught now reco...jpg
Wels Catfish!

The fine for getting caught with one in Michigan (Or the eggs....) is $10,000.00

That one I think is Po River in Italy, though it isn't anywhere near what has been reported. Recently I saw a video where a guy caught one, and inside the stomach was a nazi soldier. (The Eagle insignia is metal so it was still there and these fish can live over 80 years so not unlikely at all).

Imagine a fish that can gain 10 pounds a year, and live over 80 years. LOL yeah, I wouldn't swim in that water.

We're just lucky fresh water large mouth bass can't get big enough to pose a threat to humans. Its sure is fun watching one of those bad boys just engulf live mice, lizards, birds, frogs, snakes or pretty much anything thing smaller than them in summer time.

Yeah they're not unlike most fish; whatever can fit in the mouth gets eaten lol.

I saw a video of a dude cleaning a little Blue Catfish and when he invented the stomach he was like "Oh shit!" Cause a 4 or 5 foot venomous snake came out of the stomach and he wasn't sure it was dead lol.

This is a "Black Devil Catfish" AKA the "Crystal Eyed Catfish"

I've seen a dude get inside a tank with one of these. When he was done he was bleeding.

That last one though, ?
Lol I know! See his ass slam into the glass to help shove that down? Lol heard about a Red Tail Catfish do that once. He nailed him like "this totally could have been that Gold Fish but you wussed out and drop it" lol. I've got 3 species from 3 different countries and they all do weird funny shit, and they're all predators like any Cat really.
