I've been a lot of places, and there's few I'd like to see again more than Costa Rica. San Jose and the surrounding area is pretty rough but the rest of the country is just incredibly beautiful, and the people are just so nice and welcoming.
One of my favorite meals ever is I rolled into some tiny village in the mountains around sunset and there was only one place to eat, one of these little open air food stands they call sodas down there, and it was closing when we got there, and it was kind of the off-season so the cottages we were hoping to stay at was closed too. The woman running it spoke zero English and my Spanish is pretty spotty, but realizing we were kind of stuck there, with nothing to eat and no where to stay, she fired up her pot of oil and made us the best fried chicken and yucca I've ever had in my life, then had her husband go open one of the cottages there and let us crash there even though it was closed.
Pretty sure the blankets they brought us were actually horse pelts. It was a pretty wild place. My companion at the time was this vegan chick... I definitely didn't mention my blanket theory to her lol. Or the fact that I'm pretty sure they were frying everything in beef fat. No offense to vegans, but I'll never travel with one again, especially when there's a language barrier!
